Thomas Walshak of Dilworth died Saturday January 26 after a long illness. His remains were laid to rest at Gonzales on Sunday. A native of Poland, he came to Texas in 1881 and settled in Gonzales County near Moulton. He is survived by seven children.
The program lists a 10 a.m. regular service in Boursville. At 2 p.m. a choir will be organized at Moulton church. At 3 p.m. a Luther League program will be held. Pastor H A Heineke invites everyone.
In dry cold weather the community asks for rain as measles and la gripe cases appear. Visiting families include Hugo Loewe and Breslau children with Chas. Meyer. near Shiner, F. E. Ermis with Louis Ermis. social visits among the Woehler, Miculka, Krejci, Hand families. A mask dance at Henkhaus hall drew a large crowd with about thirty-five masks and over two hundred tickets sold.
Grandmother Culak ill for several days as Nickel High School completion nears. A Svoboda home butcher club meeting occurred Sunday. August Fojtek visited Moulton Sunday. Wells family shared time with Grandma Culak. Moulton Red Cross Auxiliary to stage a drama February 9 at the opera house. Cast includes Kasper Nes korik Brandl Vana Hlavacek Vyoral Svoboda and Svoboda sisters. Proceeds go to the Red Cross.
The new food order effective January 28 designates Mondays and Wednesdays as Wheatless days with no wheat products, Tuesdays as Meatless days with no meat, fish and fowl not counted as meat, Saturdays as Porkless days with no hog products, and every day requires one meatless meal and one wheatless meal.
Butcher shops and meat departments of retail stores urged to close on Tuesdays or continue operations with fish poultry or wild game only. If failures harm business, report to County and State Food Administrators for action. F. K. Bucek, Lavaca County Food Conservation.
Judge August W. Janszen announces his candidacy for re election as Justice of the Peace of precinct No 6 subject to the coming democratic primary. Elected in 1916 he has served to the satisfaction of his constituents. Mr and Mrs William Schmidt and daughter Miss Hilda of Youkum visited relatives here Sunday.
Consumers who buy more than a thirty day supply of any commodity must return the excess to the retailer at the original price. The retailer must redistribute surplus per Food Administration regulations without price increase. The purchaser faces legal action if the surplus is not surrendered.
Stationmaster R. Preston runs a hennery tied to his railroad job and claims the egg kingship of Tavaca county. His six Plymouth Rock hens produced 112 eggs in January, selling for 5.10 dollars, with a feed bill of 1.80 leaving a net profit of 3.30 dollars.
Constable Henry F L Mueller enters the sheriff race as a candidate pending the upcoming democratic primary election. His announcement will appear in the next column.
Bay area residents travel to San Antonio Hallettsville Shiver and Sweet Home while others return home visiting relatives. Notables include Dr J G Guenther returning to Kelly Field and new Eagle readers Louis Hohmann Pollock Nesrata Hall.
Peter Engelking, 45, of Houston, was fatally struck when a switch engine backed over him at Grand Central Station while overseeing a crew. His body was shipped to Sealy for burial. he leaves a wife and two sons. Prof. F C Engelking, his brother, traveled to Houston after the telegram announcing the death.
Frank August Oehl aged 16 years 5 months 26 days son of Mr and Mrs August Oehl residing four miles north of Moulton died Monday after a ten day illness. The funeral was held from the residence of Mr and Mrs Robert Brands Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery with Rev Father Neubert officiating. Heartbroken parents mourn the loss.
Joe Ullmann and Miss Hettie Fojtek were united in marriage on Thursday evening January 31 by Judge August W Janszen. The couple, both well known locally, are the son and daughter of respected area residents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ullmann and Mr. and Mrs. John Fojtek.
A baby boy born Sunday February 17 to Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Pieper of Boursville died the same day. The infant was laid to rest Monday in the Moulton Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. H A Heineke officiating. The Eagle extends sympathy to the grieving parents.
The Baursville Frauen Verein held its meeting last week with Mrs. H. A. Heineke. The gathering featured conversation and needle work, with refreshments served. The next meeting is set with Mrs. Vince Rehmet on Wednesday February 20.
The regular meeting of the Moulton Home and School Club will be held this Friday afternoon at the Sam and Will Moore Institute. All members are requested to attend.
J. J. Mansfield reports on the rift between the President and Senator Chamberlain and Roosevelt's Press Club appearance. He notes congressional remarks by Miller on Russian troops in France, Indian troops, and Asiatic forces, plus housing issues for government employees and high hotel rents for leaders like Claude Kitchin. Paulus, Hamburger, and others travel through Washington.
