The Texas Safety Association urges motorists to dim headlights for oncoming traffic at night. Moulton High School Bobkatz have 28 straight wins this season. The House approves a 6.5 billion tax cut 297 to 120. Orville Wright, 76, dies in Florida. Gandhi is assassinated in Delhi. Boy Scouts Week honors 38th anniversary. 14 million have joined since 1910.
The notice warns poll tax payment by February 1 is required to vote this year unless exempt. It notes a busy political year with officials at national to local levels being elected. It adds residents seek housing in Moulton, where vacant homes have been scarce for months.
E. A. Oehl, local chairman, announces that Moulton drive raised $184.94 for the March of Dimes. Half goes to the National Fund, a quarter to the Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation, and a quarter remains in the county.
The Sodality Barn Dance at Herman Park Hall on February 4 is postponed due to bad weather. It will be rescheduled after Easter and tickets already sold will be valid for the next dance.
William Darilek aged 103 died at his home near Henkhaus Bay. Scouts observe the 38th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America as 2,120,000 members join a national Week from February 6 to 12. The theme centers on The Scout Citizen at Work in his home in his community in his nation in his world.
William Darilek died at 2 30 A M Thursday January 29 at his farm near Henkhaus age 103. Funeral held January 31 at 9 00 A M from Oehl Funeral Home with mass at St Josephs Church interment in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survived by six sons one daughter twenty five grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.

Hallettsville is the scene of a Chamber of Commerce banquet held Thursday night with strong attendance and an excellent program. Rail road Commissioner Olin Culber son of Austin served as the principal speaker. Lee Jarosek and J. T. Jaeggi Jr. attended.
There were 18 313 bales of cotton ginned in Lavaca County from the 1947 crop prior to January 16 1948 compared with 9 917 bales in a prior period.
The Moulton Bobkatz travel to Waelder to face the Flatonia Bulldogs in a district basketball clash scheduled for Friday night February 6. The matchup pits two district rivals on a neutral Waelder Court with stakes for league standings.
The Moulton Bobkatz defeated the Shiner Comanches 64 to 19 on Friday night on the local court. Holub led Moulton with 18 points while Fehrenkamp Kubenka M Kubenka Kolar Maresh Krejci Bravenec added double digit and near double digit scores. Dusek paced Shiner with 10 points Kaiser Tieken Roeder and Koenig contributed several points.
Mrs. Mary Rosenauer received a festive surprise party Sunday for her 76th birthday hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mallinek. The event featured a sumptuous dinner and luncheon with many relatives in attendance including the Heiman and Koranek families, and friends from Schulenburg Danbury Wallace and San Antonio.
The Freshman class held its monthly meeting on a Thursday in January. The group approved the prior minutes, planned a March of Dimes donation totaling 2.70 with each pupil contributing a dime, and heard program parts from Joyce Lea Oeltjen and Alice Gaertner despite weather-related absences.
Mr and Mrs Milton Riske of Ivegreen welcomed a baby girl named Iris Ida at 6 45 am Friday January 30 at Dr Hugo J Strieder Hospital in Moulton The infant weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces The mother is Lorene Findeisen before marriage
The 4-H Club girls of St. Joseph's School met on February 8. Miss Martin reviewed last summer's work and found it very good. The group will meet on the first Friday of each month.
Edwin Kubenka son of Mr and Mrs F W Kubenka of Komensky has accepted employment with The Eagle Office. He is a Komensky High School graduate and a World War II veteran.
Mrs. Charles Pustejovsky, 89, died Saturday in Shiner. The Moulton Cemetery Association elected officers and directors at its Jan 29 meeting at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank building. Officers include Edwin A. Jaeggli president and Ed L. Biehunko vice president.
The Moulton girls volleyball team the Bobkittens defeated the Shiner Squaws 15 to 5 and 15 to 4 at Moulton Gym. Notables Emily Krejci Myrtle Hildebrandt Juanita Rothbauer Beatrice Flessner Jeanette Wendell and Allyne Heinsohn started in the new black and white uniforms. The team remains undefeated as they prepare to travel to Waelder to face Flatonia Friday night.
The Junior Class held its regular meeting on January 29. Plans to raise money for the prom were discussed and a lunch at the City Office on February 14 was approved. The class contributed to the March of Dimes. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
The Moulton P T A will meet in the local gymnasium Wednesday night February 11. Your Government is You is the topic with Senator Gus Strauss as speaker. A Valentine program by Mrs Maresh's first and second graders will be presented. Everyone is welcome.
John Joe Havlik of Moulton is named distinguished student at A. and M. College College Station and completes his B S in Mechanical Engineering on January 27. He is the son of Mr and Mrs J V Havlik of Moulton.
Mr and Mrs Johnnie Edwards of Baltimore Maryland announce the birth of a 12 ounce boy named Robert Charles at Dr Hugo J Strieder Hospital in Moulton on Sunday February 1 The mother is the former Miss Anna Novak of near Moulton
Mrs. Charles Pustejovsky born January 27 1859 in Silesia Czechoslovakia died January 31 1948 in Shiner Texas aged 89. She and husband Chas Pustejovsky moved from Moravia to Moulton then raised thirteen children four daughters eight sons with twenty four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Hajek home with interment in Moulton City Cemetery.
Students will receive the third and final diphtheria and whooping cough shot on Wednesday February 11 if weather permits. This completes this year’s immunization program.
