The Karnes County News Range edition marks a 50th anniversary with a 44 page historical edition praised as one of the finest in recent years. Alf. B. Schroeter is credited as a friend and publisher, with community-wide congratulations expressed.
Dr J J Taubenhaus aged 53 Texas A and M College plant pathologist died after an extended illness Monday December 13 in Moulton. He studied garlic plant diseases and was well known here. Survived by his widow and two children.
Geier Merrem Post No 392 American Legion and the Auxiliary held their annual Christmas program at the Legion Hall Monday night. Santa Claus attended and handed out fruit and sweets to children. John Havlik and his orchestra supplied the music.
The Sam and Will Moore Institute closed Thursday December 23 for Christmas holidays. Classes will resume Monday January 3 1938.
The eldest son of Mr and Mrs Joe Mikula of Port Lavaca died and was laid to rest Friday afternoon. Mrs Mikula is the former Gladys Meyer of Port Lavaca and a niece to Dr and Mrs Koape of this place. The Eagle records tears of grief with the broken hearted parents.
The Sam and Will Moore Institute’s study hall receives a heatrola replacing the old heater. The device provides uniform temperature and boosts comfort for teachers and students.
The census bureau reports total cotton ginned before December 18 reached 16,811,781 running bales, up from 11,699,116 bales by the same date last year, reflecting stronger harvest activity in 1923.
A German vessel arrives in Houston to secure helium gas for the Hindenburg. The airship is slated to begin its maiden U.S. voyage next April.
W. O. Thompson of Route 6 Gonzales called at the office Tuesday and renewed allegiance to The Eagle. He reports a fine pecan orchard but a very short crop this year.
Francis Fisbeck son of Mr and Mrs G G Fisbeck celebrated his seventh birthday on December 17 with twenty four friends in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the party and a good time was had by all.
The St. Joseph's School closed Thursday December 23 for the Christmas holidays and will reopen Monday January 8, 1938, according to the announcement.
A holiday message extends thanks to patrons and promises continued service. The list names numerous local merchants and service providers across Moulton and surrounding towns, including farmers and merchants state bank, lumber yards, garages, drug stores, cafes, beauty shops, gas stations, and more.
Seguin will mark its 100th anniversary in 1938 as the town prepares events and observances to honor the milestone. Local committees coordinate programs, historical exhibits, and community gatherings to commemorate Seguin's century of growth.
Senator Sheppard of Texas asked Congress to award the Navy Cross to Lieut. Arthur F. Anders of Weimar for extraordinary heroism during the sinking of the Panay in China. Despite wounds he directed the crew and passengers, writing orders with crayon on the deck to secure the wounded.
The Lutheran Sunday School held its annual Christmas program at Zion's Church Tuesday evening. Children received bags of fruits and candies. The school thanks JF Fehrenkamp for donating the beautiful Christmas tree.
Mrs. J. T. Jaeggli entertained the Bridge Club with spirited games and enjoyable refreshments as members gathered for an evening of fellowship and fun.
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed a Waelder warehouse and its contents including feed and corn shelter. Owned by Elvis Holloway the loss was about $1000 with some insurance reported.
Arthur Beyer seven years and one month old son of Mr and Mrs John Beyer of Dickson School died Friday December 17 after an illness of ten hours. Funeral from the parental home Saturday morning followed by services at St Josephs Catholic Church with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Rev Joseph Kopp officiating. He is survived by his parents and a three month old brother Emil. The Eagle extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
Noble Moreland aged 61 long time Hallettsville Fire Department chief died in Galveston. He supervised civic work and edited the Hallettsville Herald. Survivors include his widow and son John of Houston and three sisters in Houston Liberty Hill and Canyon.
The Moulton S P J S T Lodge elected officers for 1938 including John Mikes as president John Mindenda as vice president Joe Zavesky as secretary John V Havlik as financial secretary Joe K Darilek as treasurer and Ad I Darilek as sergeant.
Moulton Bobkats beat Schulenburg 22 to 18 in a Monday night game. Moulton’s second team defeated Schulenburg’s second string 17 to 10.
