Census data show 26 256 bales ginned in Lavaca County from the 1937 crop before December 13, compared with 8 503 bales on the same date the previous year. Information supplied to The Eagle by Henry J. Strauss Hallettsville special agent.
Jim Hrncir 45 a Hallettsville business man died last Thursday and was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery Sunday. He leaves his widow, several brothers and sisters, and his parents Mr and Mrs Frank Hrncir of Moravia.
Congress converges in Washington on Monday January 3 as Press Roosevelt plans to submit a new budget in the first week. Congressmen return from Christmas holidays and rush back to the national capital.
American statesman and Secretary of War during Wilsons second term died in Cleveland Ohio on December 25 after several weeks illness. Survived by widow three children and five grandchildren.
Frank B Kellogg a renowned statesman and former secretary of state has died at an advanced age. He was honored for his long career in public service and international diplomacy.
Mayor C K Quin of San Antonio says he plans to seek the Democratic gubernatorial nomination if Mrs Miriam Ferguson does not enter the race. He noted the timing depends on Ferguson’s decision and said he is considering his options for campaign strategy.
A 1938 resolution urges residents to support home merchants to improve Moulton. The pledge calls for purchasing locally to help the town become a better place to live.
The First Voters League based in Austin aims to secure voting franchises for 500 000 Texans aged 21 to 25. With a major political year ahead the organization urges all eligible men and women to exercise their voting rights.

Texas property valuations for tax purposes totaled 15,620,984 for 1937 per Comptroller George H. Sheppard. The aggregate value passed 4,011,459,681, the first time over four billion in six years, with Harris, Nueces, and Cass counties showing the largest gains at 16,686,070. 18,464,769. and 10,085,770 respectively. The rise is credited to oil development and broader business improvements.
County Tax Assessor-Collector E A Turk releases travel plan to assess state and county taxes for 1938. Stops include Mora, Novohrad, Hackberry, Bila Hora, St John, Gleckler, Sweet Home, Yoakum, Sulphur Park, Moulton, Wied, Witting, Midway, Shiner, Koerth, Sublime, Hope, Ezzell and Vienna from January 3 through February 26.
Evergreen School held its Christmas program on Thursday evening December 23 featuring songs recitations and dialogues. Santa Claus attended and distributed gifts to students and others.
The Sam and Will Moore Institute presented a Christmas program at the school auditorium on Wednesday evening December 23. A large crowd attended despite bad weather and the program was enjoyed by all.

Mr. and Mrs. Vladimir Darilek spent part of the Christmas holidays in Yorktown with her mother Mrs. Mathilde Becker and other relatives.
Mayor F. T. Fehrenkamp, sidelined by illness last week, was back in town this week drawing cheers from many friends and supporters.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Lee Bunting and son Taylor visited relatives and friends in Moulton for Christmas. Mrs Bunting and group remained for the week.
A wedding noon took place Tuesday at St Joseph's Catholic Church as Miss Annie Shulak married Eddie J Steinocher with Rev Joseph Kopp officiating. The couple's families, Rudie Steinocher and Annie Shulak, witnessed. The bride and groom are locals near Moulton and the Eagle extends best wishes.
The Texas department of education mailed out 5,044,027 in checks to Texas schools. Rural aid of 344,047 was due since last year and 4,699,980 is a 3 per child share of this year's 22 per capita apportionment. So far 7 of the 22 has been paid, with another 4 slice planned for February.
The Czech Dramatic Club will stage Vesnicka pod Lipami at the Catholic Hall in Moulton on Sunday January 2 at 7 30 P M under director Tom Tousek. The club has presented several Czech plays in recent years and promises entertaining fare for attendees.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Stevens Dr Apolinar Jaimes and Ray mundo Jaimes of Mexico City visited Moulton with Mr and Mrs Herbert Fiedler. They called at the printer's office Monday afternoon and spoke about conditions in the neighboring republic.
The Eagle received a Christmas greeting and subscription renewal from Ollie Meiser schlaeger with Uncle Sam's boys in the Philippine Islands. The letter was posted November 26 and arrived December 254.
The Moulton Volunteer Fire Department calls its first meeting of the year at the American Legion Hall on Monday January 8 at 7 30 PM. All members active and honorary urged to attend the meeting.
