Tom E. Shandera, former Moulton resident, died in Houston August 9 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held August 10 in Moulton with interment at the city cemetery. Survived by his widow Jennie Welff, daughter Mrs. Sanders of Houston, sons Ed of Granger and Oscar of San Antonio, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also noted is the marriage of Rose Svoboda to Henry Helweg at the bride's parents home in Moulton with Rev. K Win decker presiding.
Twenty seven members answered roll call at the Story Cafe for the regular luncheon. Weldon Knape reported Family Night preparations are progressing satisfactorily. William Lee Young discussed a community fair and corn show tied to the fall carnival. Definite action was deferred until the next meeting. The club has secured a lease on additional railroad property for recreational grounds.
The state Democratic Executive Committee in Austin certified the first primary vote. Governor Jester led with 642,029 votes, ahead of seven opponents. U S Senator results show Stevenson 477,077 Johnson 405,617 Peddy 237,195 with 62,502 for other eight candidates. Steven and Johnson advance to the August 28 runoff.
The Moulton Public Schools begin the 1948-49 scholastic session on Monday September 13. Superintendent J. W. Pyland returns to lead the faculty for his fourth year at the district.

Lt Edgar J Butschek of Moulton Texas serves on the attack cargo ship USS Thuban during the Navy annual resupply expedition to St George and St Paul islands 250 miles north of Dutch Harbor Alaska. Ice-filled Arctic waters thaw briefly in mid summer creating a hazardous channel as reconnaissance planes aid plans to unload cargo in under a week and return to open sea.
A summary shows 23 marriage licenses issued in July by County Clerk Charles Strauss, down from 33 in June. For the first seven months of the year the total reached 127, up five from the same period last year.
