A half million dollar damage suit in Beaumont was decided by Judge Martin. Defendants W. P. H. McFaddin W. W. Kyle and W. Wierl won. plaintiff awarded 2000 dollars as judgment but to cover costs. The 2000 dollars was earnest money already paid and tendered in open court. An appeal is likely if a new trial is not granted.
Washington April 22 Senate judiciary committee authorized Senator Culberson to report favorably on the nominations of Waller Burns and J W Ownby and they are to be confirmed tomorrow or the next day. It was disproved that Ownby resides in the Indian Territory rather than Texas.
Miss Olivia Dainey of Seguin, step daughter of Hon. J. B. Dibrell, was thrown from a buggy on San Pedro avenue yesterday afternoon and sustained head injuries feared fatal. She was unconscious at last report.
New York report states David Carpenter, longtime friend of Horace Greeley and John C. Freemont, has died at his Mount Pleasant residence.
In a west of Collinsville Cherokee Nation clash between cattlemen, William Phillips was killed while William Mayfield Jesse Skidmore and Lige Johnson were mortally wounded. All were non residents owning pastures near Oolagh, close to Collinsville. The feud traces to a court contest over grazing land.
Oakville Texas April 21. The body of an unknown Mexican man was recovered from a well on the Joe Newlanch in the county thirty miles west of Oakville. Sheriffs of Live Oak and McMullen counties with a justice of the peace and local men from Tilden and Oakville reported death by gunshot with additional head injuries from an apparent ax blow.
At Leone seven miles north of Bolivar Tennessee a Dallas reunion excursion train from Illinois Central struck a wagon carrying seven people. Four died on the scene and a fifth was fatally injured as the train hit the vehicle near the depot.
