One man wounded, insurance on turaituy and y Young Main Wounded. Kirkhide Texas April 29 records Dave Bass aged 17 shot in the back and seriously wounded at an ice cream festival near a church. Syms claims the shooting was accidental. The Star urges relief money food clothing for drought stricken farmers in Arkansas County Missouri dated May 22.
Sol Smith Russell, noted American stage actor, died here this afternoon at 2 30. Funeral will be held Wednesday from the residence of his brother in law Mr Berger. He leaves a wife and two children Miss L Alice Russell and Robert E Russell of Minneapolis. The death ends a long illness. Greenville Miss April 29 First contract to pick cotton from the stalk by machinery was closed between Thomas B Morris of Pittsburg and Morris Rosenstock of Greenville. The device has been tested for ten years and is now contracted for harvest. Plants to refine the oil are planned outside Beaumont.
Beaumont Texas April 28 The Gulf Refining company has laid 3 000 000 brick for the third refinery at Port Arthur and aims to be in operation by July barring mishap. The firm also is expanding tankage with about 2 000 000 barrels in store and expects substantial profits per barrel from refining.
In Palestine Texas two men died after a shooting at a singing convention. Elzo Clifton shot Jim Clevenger in the chin and was then killed by a gunshot to the heart. Clevenger leaves a grown son George. Clifton’s mother and sister survive him. The town reports past violent acts connected to the Clevenger name. Local authorities note a pending Monday visit by Joe Clevenger.
Attorney General Crow opened a case in Missouri Supreme Court to dissolve the beef trust. He secured an order from Chief Justice Burgess directing leaders of meat firms in Kansas City St Louis and St Joseph to appear May 6 and answer questions about price regulation of dressed meats under the 1899 law.
The worst wreck in the line's history occurred near the tunnel east entrance six miles from Hot Springs at 8 am yesterday. A freight geathoose overturned injuring passengers and crew, including Hon. J. N. Pittman probate judge of Carroll County residing at Berryville.
In Gatesville Texas on April 29 R T Wilson faced an examining trial for the murder of C W Brown last Sunday. His bond was fixed at seven thousand five hundred dollars and was immediately posted.
Rev. George Stuart, Methodist evangelist, began a ten days revival in Hillsboro Texas on Sunday. Attendance ranged from 120 to 2500 across services. Two services are held daily.
Guthrie O T city marshal R N Maxwell in a clash near Lexington with brothers George and Jack Goodin. George died at the scene while Jack survived the confrontation.
From Trichinople India Miss Malin has arrived in Galveston to wed Captain G K Gordon a renowned West Texas rancher. She is English by birth as is her fiancé who long sailed the seas then settled in Texas. Their former acquaintance spans years and distance and will end in marriage in Galveston.
An explosion at the Shenandoah Powder Company upper mill at Kreps Station Saturday afternoon killed five men Irving Wolf Amos Yarnal W J Lindermuth Elmer Stauffer and John Robert The blast wrecked the mill and all surrounding buildings no bodies were recovered except Wolf whose arms were found far from the scene Authorities say the cause may never be known and all workers at the magazine were killed.
Hon J Sterling Morton former secretary of agriculture died at 4 30 this afternoon at Lake Forest home of his son Mark Morton after weeks of gradual decline. He had been moved from Nebraska City to Lake Forest for care but showed no improvement.
Memphis Tennessee April 23 Rear Admiral and Mrs Schley arrived last night and were escorted to the Gayoso hotel. The admiral will stay until Wednesday night visiting several Mississippi cities. A parade is planned for tomorrow morning followed by a silver service presentation in the afternoon and a grand banquet at the Gayoso hotel in the evening.
A garbled dispatch from Cuero Texas reports a clay sample in Odwitt County that appears to be a first class potter's clay. If verified, it will be produced in limited quantities.
Washington April 27 The banking and currency committee will circulate a majority report in a mailout likely unmatched in extent. Chairman Fowler said the report is being mailed to 1 026 816 persons to ensure broad distribution of the bill information.
Hom Tulley A. Fuller aged 42 a former Texas legislator and assistant attorney general from 1897 to 1899 died at his San Antonio home after a two week illness of malaria. He left no family and his remains will be shipped to Paris Pennsylvania his old home for burial.
