A Grundy County Circuit Court jury heard appraisers for the Blitzes and the state in a 9.95 acre condemnation dispute for Interstate 55. Earl Cazel valued the land at 20 000 dollars while Emmett Fruin placed the 9.95 acres at 8 000 dollars, with damages of 19 000 dollars to the Blitzes due to landlocking.
Tolliver 17 of Emmit St Kinsman in guarded condition at Morris Hospital after losing control on Kinsman Rd at 3 18 a m Sunday. He hit a light pole, lights were knocked out, and he was cited for failing to reduce speed. His 1965 Chrysler was destroyed. Also involved, Pamela Reiners 19 and Joseph Laughlin 35 in a separate Reed Rd accident. Reiners cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and posted $25 bond for court appearance Oct 14.
Bids to drilling Well No 3 will be opened at 7 p.m. today before the City Council in the Public Works Building on River Road. The Morris Planning Commission has recommended rezoning for Century Wholesale west of Illinois 47 and south of George St. City Attorney James Peacock is reviewing the legality of an agreement attached to the recommendation.

Tuesday brings variable clouds and showers with a high near 80. Dresden Island area reported a 78 degree high and 50 low, with .05 inches of precipitation. Sunday’s high was 75 and low 39, while 7 am temperature stood at 57 and 10:40 am in Morris downtown reached 70.
The 25th Annual Grundy County Corn Festival lights up Morris with corn decorations, window art, and a full schedule from Friday through Sunday. Organizers from Channahon Youth Development Center and MCHS students provide decorations while residents wear festival buttons. Events include a Horseshoe Tournament, Pie Eating Contest, Greased Pig Contest, Kiddie Parade, Crackerbox Derby, and a 200 unit Sunday parade.
The Morris police investigated thefts of cash from a Greenway Pontiac Oldson U S dealership and the Wagon Wheel Inn. A register valued at 800 was found mud buried near Aux Sable Creek. No forced entry was observed and a separate speeding citation was issued to Marylyn Savaria.
A 65-year-old East Chicago man Francisco Romero Sr died after a car rear ended a semi on US 6 near Illinois 47 early Saturday. His son Francisco Romero Jr 25 and two other teens were injured. the truck driver Gary Krewson 27 was cited for failing to yield.
Mazon volunteers responded at 1 30 p m Saturday to a trailer owned by Daniel Zilm east of Mazon. The home of Daniel Zilm, his wife, and five children ages 14 to five months was destroyed by fire caused by faulty wiring to a refrigerator. Estimated damage was $8000. The family, who lost their home 18 months ago in a prior fire, now stays in a house on the Hansen farm.
Chicago AP reports prison officials learned of an alleged plot to murder Richard Speck while in custody. An unnamed Joliet prisoner claimed he was offered money to execute Speck after inquiring about his daily routine. Speck, 30, is serving eight consecutive life sentences for 1966 nursing student murders.
