Pentagon officials estimate millions of dollars in building materials sent to Viet Nam were stolen damaged or ruined by exposure or hasty unloading. An inventory at three depots and 13 warehouses in Viet Nam is due in November to gauge losses as RMK-BRJ contractors build bases ports and quarters for U.S. forces.

Edison to Buy Nuclear Fuel for Dresden and Quad-Cities
Commonwealth Edison Co said it will buy between 15 million and 20 million dollars worth of uranium concentrate for its Dresden station near Morris and the planned Quad-Cities plant near Cordova. Kerr-McGee Corp will supply concentrate from its Grants, New Mexico mine. Deliveries begin in 1968.

First Day Driver Fined in Crash
Clarence N. Kinkin Jr., 17, of Braidwood, was ticketed on August 10 by Trooper John Perona for driving too fast for conditions and improper lane usage. He received fines of 25 dollars and 5 dollars in costs for each count in magistrate court. His car lost control on Illinois 113 at Diamond, struck two evergreen trees, two gas pumps that caught fire, two flood lights, and a billboard before stopping upright in a ditch.

Fire destroys barn and sheds in Central City
Braceville firefighters responded at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday to a grass fire that spread to an old barn and several sheds owned by Ray Papach. The structures at the northeast corner of Central City were completely destroyed. Fire chief Henry Gaddo Jr. reported the loss.

MOSCOW AP The Foreign Ministry said Thomas R. Dawson an American Peace Corps member in Iran was detained for border violations near Astara on the Caspian Sea. A U.S. Embassy spokesman said Dawson was taken Sunday while walking toward the border in innocence and that measures are being taken for his release. The ministry ordered expulsion of Donald R.
