Teenage Lisbon Girl Killed in Car Truck Crash

Jane Taylor, 16, of Morris near Lisbon, died after a 1962 Dodge pickup struck her 1958 Oldsmobile at Town House and White Willow Roads. The stop signs at the intersection had been removed by unknown persons. Goodlet, 40, of Newark, was in fair condition with internal injuries. Funeral set for West Lisbon Evangelical Lutheran Church with donations to the church. Her activities included student council, band, 4 H, and school newspaper staff.

School Board Awards Bids for Morris Community High School Upgrades

The District 101 Board approved contracts for Ayers Electric Co. and Charles O'Brien & Son to upgrade the Morris Community High School driveway parking and lighting at costs of 25 795 and 18 329 10. The board cited rising costs and need for better access.

Weather Themer: Much Colder With Cool Night Ahead

The U S Weather Bureau reports a fair and cooler night with a low in the upper teens. Friday should be sunny and slightly warmer near 70 while Saturday stays partly cloudy with little temperature change. Collins Weather Station notes a Wednesday high of 76 with a 43 low and 0.24 inches of rain. Downtown Morris logged 54 degrees at 9 am and 61 at 11:30 am.

Board Restores Bus Service After Parents’ Meeting

The Morris Elementary School Board of Education voted unanimously to restore transportation for Stine School pupils from Hollenbeck subdivision amid a dispute over pickup boundaries and notification. Spokesman Gerald McTague led parents in arguing the bus route should honor prior free rides, with the board promising policy review before next year and improved notice procedures.

Morris Elementary Board Votes to Buy Land for New School

The Morris Elementary Board of Education voted to purchase a 20 acre tract south of Pine Bluff Road in Wauponsee Township for a proposed 12 classroom school at 1500 per acre on a five year basis. Budget details were approved showing a 1966-67 levy of 472982 and a estimated tax rate of 13230 per hundred.

Barge Lines Purchases 519 Acre Tract Near Seneca

The A L Mechling Barge Lines of Joliet bought 295 acres in LaSalle and Grundy Counties adding to an existing 224 acres to form a 519 acre industrial site with a one mile river frontage and a Rock Island Railroad spur. John W. Oehler and August B Black led the deal.

Warrant Issued for Everett Biggs in Springfield Bank Robbery

The FBI announced a warrant for the arrest of Everett Leroy Biggs, 30, in connection with the $17,860 robbery of Town and Country Bank in Springfield. Biggs, formerly of Delavan, is charged with armed robbery and is being sought for questioning in robberies in Great Falls Montana and Jacksonville.

Mass Held in Gym as Church Undergoes Refurbishment

Immaculate Conception Church will hold Mass in the school gym for at least 30 days while renovations proceed. Volunteers strip and refinish 60 oak pews, brighten windows and lighting, lay carpet, and relocate an altar, rail, organ, and chair seating to the gym next to the church.

GE announces nuclear fuel recovery plant near Morris Illinois

General Electric plans to build a 15 million dollar nuclear fuel recovery facility near Morris in Goose Lake Township about nine miles east of Morris. The plant would process used reactor fuel to reclaim usable materials and neptunium for aerospace and medical uses, with construction possibly starting in 1967 after AEC and state approvals.
