Weather: Mild Day with Sun and Warmer Highs

The forecast calls for mostly sunny conditions with little temperature change. Highs will be in the mid 60s, with tonight mostly cloudy and lows around the mid 40s. Saturday brings partly cloudy skies and cooler temps in the 55 to 60 range. Thursday's high reached 63 at Dresden Island Locks and Dam with a 42 low. Early morning readings were 43 at 7 a.m. and 55 at 10:15 a.m. downtown Morris.

Juvenile Bomb Threat Hearing Set in Minooka Case

Circuit Judge Robert Malmquist ordered an adjudicatory hearing for Nov 8 in Grundy County Circuit Court. Two juveniles, Mark Lawrence 16 of Channahon and a 14 year old Channahon girl, face charges for calling bomb threats to Minooka High School on Oct 18 and 19. Authorities say the Oct 18 call originated from the girl's home and the Oct 19 call from Lawrence's home.

Brezhnev Says Soviet Envoys Sent to Middle East

Kremlin leader stated Soviet representatives have been sent to the Middle East at Egyptian President Sadat's request. He did not specify military role or dispatch scope. Brezhnev urged U.S. follow suit and warned of further measures to enforce the cease-fire.

Nixon to hold televised news conference at 7 p.m

President Nixon plans a 7 p.m. EDT televised news conference amid reports he may name a new special Watergate prosecutor. Deputy press secretary Warren would not confirm a Cox successor and said the session will not pre empt the President. The questions likely center on Cox, the tapes, and the Middle East crisis.

Nixon weighs UN observers for Middle East

The White House said President Nixon could consider a UN request to send truce observers to the Middle East but opposes including the United States or the Soviet Union in the observer force. Deputy Press Secretary Warren noted Nixon would allow a small number of observers if a clear distinction from the peacekeeping truce team is kept. Brezhnev’s disclosure of Soviet representatives was not confirmed by Warren.

Four defendants plead not guilty in two separate burglaries

David C. Muncey 19 of Rte. 1 and three co defendants faced Circuit Judge Robert Malmquist and pleaded not guilty to burglary theft and possession of a controlled substance in a Sept 24 doctor’s office drug theft case. Phillip E. Nelson 28 of 110 Chapin St and two others also pleaded not guilty to burglary and theft in a Sept 25 Vanderhyden home break in.
