Coal City appoints Dominic Bertoglio patrolman at meeting
A 25 year old Coal City man Dominic Bertoglio was named patrolman by the village board effective Oct 25. The board also noted a recurring water pump outage and approved redecorating the city hall exterior for 3150 dollars plus 1000 for brick markings. Annexation of just under an acre owned by Charles and Pearl Small was approved. Christmas decorations costing 5000 dollars were purchased from City Flag and Suburban Co.

About $200 in cash was taken from a restaurant at the Cheker Service Station near Interstate 55 east of Coal City Will County deputies said night attendant Arthur Rudolph closed the station at 12 45 a m and deposited money. At 5 a m owner Leonard Love found broken glass and a drilled floor safe though entry was not successful. The restaurant manager said money from the cash register was scattered on the floor. The incident recalls a 1970 robbery attempt at the same station.
