The county board considers an 1971 72 spending plan near 1 877 821 dollars with a 1 382 149 dollar November 1972 balance. A tentative budget will be presented Oct 28, with revenue projected at 3 259 970 and detailed fund allocations across offices, health, elections, and public services.
Morris grade school parents will rate District No 54 Board of Education via a letter approved at the Tuesday meeting. The survey asks satisfaction with education, strongest and weakest curricula, and preferred school aspects. The board plans a special Oct 27 meeting on policies. Shabbona School to buy a wrestling mat over three years for about 2500 to 3000 dollars, with admission fees and student council help. Two basketball baskets will be installed for about 2300 dollars, plus two hydrants at 300 dollars each. Clarence Luke named learning disability teacher at Shabbona and Kenneth E Matteson hired as part time janitor at Garfield. Retroactive raises for two teachers with extra summer credits, effective September. Arvin Battersby to cover Center School in Stephen Black’s absence.

An 83-year-old Wilmington clothing store owner, Mrs Elizabeth Agamy, was found dead in her living quarters behind Agamy's Clothing Store at 90 N Water St during a burglary investigation. Police arrested Larry J Henderson, 25, of Kankakee on burglary charges after being found with a wooden handled knife. An autopsy at St Joseph Hospital Joliet was performed to determine cause of death. Deputy Coroner Reeves reported death likely occurred 1 to 2 hours earlier with no signs of molestation. State crime lab assistance was sought as investigation continued.
County board hears plan for a centralized communications center funded by a study from a professional firm. William H. Wilson says small communities like Grundy County face budget restraints and that a shared center could free officers for street work and improve record keeping. He notes Kendall County already coordinates a center and offers countywide surveys for support.
A 13 year old Yorkville girl Connie Lynn Batchelor died from a compound skull fracture after a two vehicle crash at Illinois 47 and U S 34 in Kendall County Tuesday evening. An Aurora teen, 17 year old Johnie Culley, was driving the other car and survived.
Kendall County supervisors discussed River Road improvements from Yorkville to Fox River Drive and granted zoning actions for Boulder Hill Unit 25 and Meyerbrook Unit 3. The sheriff’s department accepted Detzler Pontiac’s $2,167.72 bid for a 1972 squad car with trade, while talks on a radio tower permit neared FCC approval and a guard rail was urged for safety. About 20 residents urged immediate road fixes citing holes and washboard surfaces. plans include scarifying and A-3 resurfacing with 9,000 tons of gravel, starting next week. Final payment of 2,298 dollars to the Soil Conservation Service was approved.
Martin R. O'Brien, 74, founder of WMRO Radio, died at his Aurora home from an apparent heart attack. He owned and operated the station from 1934 to 1957. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. his wife died Oct. 5.
