Chicago area chains led by Jewel Tea Co and A P cut prices on staple nonperishables in late September with 10 to 20 percent reductions on 2327 items. Jewel cited choice for customers while expecting to attract more business. Prices for coffee pears olives tomato juice dressing and other items dropped.

Zoning Changes Approved by Morris Planning Commission
The Morris Planning Commission granted three zoning change requests and denied two during a Tuesday session. Changes include rezoning three lots for multiple dwelling, converting a lot near 307 FE Illinois Ave to B-3 commercial, and moving Metro Rubber Products to M-1 manufacturing along with adjacent areas. Grundy County high school girls are mailing about 50 Santa Claus ditty bags to American servicemen in Viet Nam at Christmas. The Grundy County Red Cross Youth Department chairs the project with Martha A. Slater as youth chairman. Each bag includes a ballpoint pen a soap dish and other small comforts and recreational items.

Fire Calls Rise to 13 Since Friday in Community
Morris Volunteer Fire Department answered two calls as total fire incidents climbed to 13 by Tuesday afternoon. Crews fought a rail line fire at Robert Stansberry farm on Rod and Gun Club Road at 2 55 pm and extinguished a stove fire at the Jack Corbin residence 722 East Street at 3 45 pm. Mrs Corbin stirred dinner when a pan overheated causing cabinet charring and smoke damage in the kitchen.

Pike Resigns as Auxiliary Bishop in California
James A. Pike resigns today as auxiliary bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California amid disputes with Bishop Henry Louttit of South Florida. November Draft Call Reduced
The Pentagon cut the November draft call by 6,100 to 37,600 and said 12,100 will be inducted in December. The December call covers only half the month and no inductions will occur between December 16 and January 1, 1967. All inductees go to the Army. The January request is likely about 33,500 based on six month averages.

President Johnson outlines a broad Social Security pension plan totaling at least 2.2 billion in increases with average boosts of 8.5 dollars a month and minimum checks set at 100 dollars.
