Parade crowds burst seams at Grundy County Corn Festival

Morris hosted the 25th Grundy County Corn Festival parade with more than 2 000 participants across 175 units. Traffic delays forced a 30 minute postponement, but the event concluded before 5 p.m. amid sunny skies and crowds exceeding last year’s 30 000. Awards highlighted civic, commercial and youth floats, with Morris Daily Herald, K C Lodge 845 and several civic leaders among dignitaries.

Kiddie Parade Draws About 250 Participants

Approximately 250 children joined the annual Kiddie Parade on Saturday afternoon. Liberty Street crowds lined the route from the courthouse to the Jackson and Liberty Streets corner where the reviewing stand stood. Women of the Moose organized the event.

Cloudy with showers and possible thunderstorms, highs around the 70s. Overnight showers likely, with a low in the upper 50s. Weekend temps noted near Dresden Island Locks with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the 40s to mid 50s. Local temps tracked from Morris and downtown points. Corn Festival judged winners led by Timmy Brandt for best theme Old Wagon and Karen Gunnerson for Most Original Silver Comstock with multiple categories and cash prizes awarded by Mary Phelan.

Joliet Drug Bust Ties To Coal City Office Break-In

Investigation into a theft at Dr. Roman Smyk’s Coal City office uncovered a major drug cache in Joliet. Police say the operation tied to the Joliet Outlaw gang, with amphetamines barbiturates marijuana hallucinogens syringes firearms and a stolen Harley Davidson found at 319 S Richards St Joliet. Authority warrants were issued for Persinger Muncey and Sanders as the case expanded through tips and police work.

Body found near Joliet ends Oswego girl's missing case

The body of 15 year old Roberta Jean Anderson, missing since Thursday, was found near abandoned buildings in Joliet with multiple stab wounds. A second body, a woman in her 20s with a fractured skull, was found in a field near a cemetery in Channahan, Will County.

Morris beard contest winners announced at high school field

Winners announced after Sunday night judging at Morris Community High School athletic field. First place tied between Nearest William Mosier and Gerry Carlson with several honorable mentions. Other awards include Longest, Worst, Shaggiest and Best looking categories with multiple named winners and addresses.

Corn Festival ends with fireworks display at Morris High

Grundy County hosts its 25th annual Corn Festival at Morris Community High School with drum and bugle corps, judging, and trophy ceremonies. Fireworks included themed fountains and shells as Festival officials honor long-time co chair Pete Muffler. Winning festival buttons announced with prize numbers ranging from 100 to 6 866 for various awards and a bicycle prize.
