City near EPA landfill permit with bids planned
Third Ward Alderman Art Willmington said Morris may soon secure an operating permit for the Morris Landfill after EPA inspection. City officials plan to hire an earth moving machine at about 100 dollars per hour, with bids opened June 12 to complete fill, ditch work, grading and debris sealing to enable a pre inspection.

A Red Cross bloodmobile in the Morris VFW Hall collected 176 pints Monday with 16 first time donors and 97 advance appointments. Local churches and volunteers organized meals and support, numbering donors from Morris and nearby towns. The next bloodmobile is set for July 19 at the Morris VFW Hall.

The submerged 14 foot canoe was found along the Illinois River near Bell's Landing. A Morris man reported giving a young man a ride to Ottawa Bend Sunday after a canoe accident. Seneca Police noted the man in a blue canoe may have been involved and later information tied him to the incident. The owner remains unidentified.

Ed ward Lewan 26 of Levittown Pa identified as the deceased in the Dow Chemical plant blast in Joliet Will County coroner Willard Blood said Monday night. Two Illinois men Jack Harris 19 of Wilmington and Mike Martinez of Joliet were hospitalized after the 1045 a.m. accident as workers from a private contractor used welding gear in a closed down area near Interstate 55 and Arsenal Road.
