City and county planning commissions met in the courthouse to outline interlocking zoning problems and potential controls beyond subdivision within 1.5 miles of the city. They discussed sewage capacity, possible annexation taps north of I 80, building code uniformity, and a county water and sewer survey report.
Arthur H. Bremer, 21, pleaded innocent in U.S. District Court to federal charges connected with the May 15 shooting of Alabama Governor George C. Wallace and three others at a political rally. He faced charges of shooting a candidate, assaulting a Secret Service agent, illegally transporting a .38 revolver, and using the weapon to commit a felony.
Gov. George C. Wallace spoke to reporters for the first time since being shot at a Laurel Maryland rally. He said he was sorry it has to end this way while acknowledging he will not resume campaigning soon. He finished second in Oregon's Democratic presidential primary behind Sen. George McGovern.
The City of Morris collects 5125.16 as its share of the April distribution of state income tax, per a release from Gov. Richard Ogilvie. Grundy County receives 5667.75. Other county municipalities receive sums including Braceville and Coal City, totaling 16094.23 for Grundy County. statewide distributions total 6752923.11 with 5700712.88 to municipalities and 1052210.23 to counties.

Executor John S. Rendleman files in Johnson County Circuit Court noting that race track stock tied to the late Paul Powell has paid 168,640 dollars in dividends since his death 19 months ago. If added to prior figures, the estate total reaches 3,175,626 dollars, with about 800,000 dollars in cash found in shoeboxes. Major checks include 63,200 dollars from Chicago Downs, 23,700 dollars from Egyptian Trotting, 11,000 from Fox Valley Trotting Club, and 8,000 from Cahokia Land Trust.
