Salary schedules for Morris Community High School teachers were released showing 1971 72 and 1972 73 pay scales. Increases retroactive to November 15 1971 raised experienced bachelor degree starters from 7500 to 8000 and 8150 respectively with many entries listed by education level and years of service.
Mayor John Hendrickson announced Morris Municipal Pool will open at 1 p.m. Saturday for Memorial Day weekend. All repairs are complete and staff have been hired for the coming year. The pool committee reported readiness.
Weather in Illinois shows July like warmth continuing with highs near 90 and 80s, plus a fair night forecast and a Wednesday Dresden Island report. Virgil Lee Fuqua of Dallas released the hostage after hours of confrontation in Dallas Love Field and at police headquarters. He had held a young woman at gunpoint seeking a jet plane and demanded weapons and handcuffs. negotiations with Police Chief Frank Dyson and Assistant Chief Paul Townsend led to his surrender at 9 a.m.
An explosion at the Ingram Industries ammunition plant near Kiln Mississippi killed five women and damaged the 20 acre site. Firemen were ordered away as flames threatened stored explosives and a 60 pound drum of lead styphnate. Plant safety supervisor John Hogue said the first blast occurred in a small building where workers mixed chemicals for star flares.
Grundy County Board of Appeals delayed a decision on a setback variance for a one acre former Hume School site to permit a residence and Schnauzer kennel. Objections cited noise odor runoff and neighborhood impact as the panel heard testimony and adjourned to June 8.

The gym may host a summer PEACE program with adult sponsorship and no charge, ending when the floor is refinished.
