Man Drowns Near Peabody Quarry In Illinois
A 26 year old Manhattan man Donald R Brown drowned in a quarry area owned by Peabody Coal Mine Co two miles west of Essex in Kankakee County near the Grundy County line. He and companion Michael Smith 26 of Plainfield camped there while fishing. Smith awoke at 2 a.m. and searched for Brown. Brown's body was recovered by Wilmington and Essex Fire Departments at 2:30 p.m. An inquest was ordered to determine the cause of death.

A 29 year old Lorain man remained in Morris Hospital after a two car head on crash Sunday at 12 10 pm on Illinois 47 near Sis s Drive Inn. Donna Keown 31 of Goodfield Ill and Joseph James Billy 29 of Palm Desert Calif and his 8 year old son were treated and released. Billy was issued a ticket for failing to yield left turn. Davis Ambulance transported all four to Morris Hospital. Damage valued at several hundred dollars. Sheriff deputy investigated.

Ronald Eisenberg 35 of Sandwich had six passengers hurt. The southbound Butts car swiped Eisenberg then collided head on with the northbound Clouse vehicle on a curved stretch.
