Newark to Plainfield Flight Reenactment Marks 1976 Trek
Some 290 people reenacted the 1832 flight of settlers from Newark to Plainfield along the Chicago Ottawa Trail. The 25 mile march saw cyclists riders hikers and autos follow the Beggs home site route with a Plaque dedication at Newark and ceremonies in Plattville and Plainfield. Participants received patches and certificates and groups honored the Bicentennial with ARBA flags and Kendall County plaques.

Illinois 47 demolition bids scheduled for June
The Illinois Department of Transportation will take bids June 4 to demolish vacant houses along Division Street south of Benton Street in the Illinois 47 project corridor. The state purchased the homes for the Illinois 47 improvement program among 170 projects with an estimated total of 130 million dollars.

Stolen cars found stripped behind Seven Gables area
Two 1976 cars valued at about 8000 each were found stripped of front ends doors and trunk lids in a wooded area north of the Seven Gables lot. One was reported stolen to West Chicago Police by Joseph Herbick of Glen Ellyn on May 11, the other to Wheaton Police by Francis Ferrin of Naperville on May 13. Police towed both vehicles to Morris.

Telephone cable cut disrupts Illinois Bell lines on Division St
Construction crews sliced a 200 pair cable on Illinois 47 in front of the TSC store at 1427 Division St. cutting 65 lines for businesses and residences. James Coups of Illinois Bell said about 35 lines served businesses and 30 served residences. Crews expected restoration by noon. The cable was a large one, Crupi noted.

John Glenn Lead Honorees in Aviation Hall of Fame Induction
Dayton Ohio will host eight aviation pioneers inducted July 24 with Senator John Glenn the first American to orbit Earth among the honorees. Chairman of the ceremonies is Lowell Thomas the news commentator author and explorer. Glenn is 55 and a Democratic senator from Ohio.
