Morris MCHS Board Adopts 2.3 Million Budget With Deficit
After a 32 hour session the Morris Community High School Board approved a 1976 77 budget of 2 325 598 with a 362 601 deficit. Expenditures were cut across building improvements equipment and lab projects with several items placed on hold and a reduced tennis court plan. The board shifted state aid into the building fund and faced a 222 581 35 overall deficit though some transportation and other expenditures were retained.

The $500000 damages case filed by Gary Voss of Wilmington contrets Jessie Logsdon of Berry David Housman of Braidwood and Mid American Truck Lines Inc. In Dec 5 1973 a car driven by Housman collided with Logsdon’s semi on northbound Interstate 55 near the Illinois 129 entrance ramp Trooper David Lauer testified he arrived around 340 350 p.m. and found Housman’s car in the right lane and Logsdon’s truck on the shoulder Lauer noted Logsdon stopped north of the overpass to clean his windshield and could not prove where the truck was parked before the crash

Abducted Wisconsin Woman Found Dead Near Edens Expressway
The body of Theresa Lane, 19, of Racine, was found shot along the Edens Expressway in Chicago after she and her boyfriend John Maulden were abducted from a Racine apartment. Maulden was wounded in the cheek during the abduction. the pair were tied and placed in a car later abandoned on the highway. The FBI was alerted.

Sergeant Floyd to Dock at Morris for Bicentennial Visit
The Sergeant Floyd floating museum will dock at Stratton State Park in Morris on August 10 as part of a U S Army Corps of Engineers Bicentennial celebration. Bicentennial Rock Island Locomotive Runs Through Morris Area
The Rock Island bicentennial locomotive designed by Andy Romano of Edison New Jersey saw regular runs on Quad Cities and Peoria Rocket routes through Morris for the year. The 1952 E8 painted in Rock Island colors carries Independence and a Don’t Tread on Me emblem. The Twentieth Century Railroad Club sponsored the design contest, drawing about 200 entries and awarding Romano a $100 savings bond.
