Greenhouse move to Morris aids GAVC horticulture tests
The Elgin Joliet and Eastern Railway greenhouse near Joliet is being moved to Grundy Area Vocational Center grounds in Morris. It will host herbicide and fertilizer tests, plant growth studies, and germination of native prairie grasses for the 1974-75 school year pending a feasibility study.

Morris Planning Commission Approves Sketch Comprehensive Plan
At a special meeting the Morris Planning Commission authorized consultant Allen Kracower to publish a sketch comprehensive plan and submit it to Illinois by June 1. The plan updates the 1967 document with six maps on land use soil and flood plains and a transportation map, highlighting flood risk near the Illinois River and soil limitations for septic disposal.

Trucker Missing After I 55 Bridge Crash And Fire
Rescue squads from Morris Wilmington Coal City Braidwood and Essex searched the Kankakee River under the I 55 bridge for a truck driver who vanished after his tractor trailer hit the bridge rail and burst into flames. State police said a left tire blew out on the northbound unit at 4 23 a m causing a crash that left the cab almost disintegrated and a beer cargo of about 1200 cases. Fire crews recovered dashboard grill and seat while dragging operations continued as traffic was redirected for hours. Two injured were treated and released at St Joseph Hospital Joliet and another Chicago man received care.

A Grundy County Circuit Court jury awarded $138,000 for 43 acres near Dwight to be used for an Interstate 55 Illinois 47 overpass. The Roeder family received $124,000 for land and buildings and $14,000 for other damages.

McCord recalls clemency offer in Watergate case
James W. McCord Jr. testified that John J. Caulfield urged executive clemency and said Nixon was aware of the offer. He said Caulfield warned the President’s ability to govern was at stake and quoted discussions with Caulfield describing messages from the White House.
