Once Busy Coal Tipple in Morris Is Razed

The Morroco Coal Company's tipple on the east side of Division Street in Morris was torn down after years of inactivity and hazard concerns. The yard now houses McElvain Construction and Johnson Precast, with no new plans. Coal came from nearby pits and mines and was sorted by size before sale.

Nixon imposes ceiling on meat prices nationwide

Seneca Rural Fire District election set for April 10

The Seneca Rural Fire Protective Association proposes a new district to span parts of Grundy and LaSalle counties including Erienna Vienna Norman Nettle Creek Grundy and Brookfield Miller Manlius in LaSalle. Voting runs 6 am to 6 pm at Milton Pope Grade School for north of Illinois River residents and Brookfield Town Hall for south residents with two polling sites.

Oak Park man surrenders in Bolingbrook girl sale case

Harold Miller 36, a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois Chicago, surrendered in Will County on charges of conspiracy to participate in child abandonment after allegedly paying 30000 for a 12 year old Bolingbrook girl. He waived extradition and was freed on 10000 bond.

Township Elections In Grundy County Set Next Tuesday

Grundy County braces for township voting April 3 for supervisor town clerk assessor and four auditors under a new state statute. Morris precincts listed from courthouse to VFW hall with GOP candidates Braum Pack Lois Winsor and others contesting non democratic fields. Incumbent Goose Lake supervisor Hauschild Goose Lake clerk Trotter seek reelection. Maine Aux Sable and Aux Sable races noted with several candidates and no democrats filed in some townships.
