Minooka district wins detachment petition in Grundy vote

Couch found mentally incompetent to stand trial in Kendall case
Couch 21 of Arlington Hotel Aurora was found mentally incompetent by Circuit Judge Robert Sears. He was ordered held in Kane County Jail until a sanity hearing determines if treatment is needed. Co-defendant David Morris, 24, faces the Jan. 22 slaying of Donald Kirklin, 36, found Jan. 23 along Miller Rd. in Little Rock Township.

Explosion injures two at Dresden nuclear site during piping work
Two Phillip Getchow workers, Floyd Seals and John Taylor Jr., were injured in an explosion at the Dresden nuclear power station site while rerouting hydrogen lines and purging gas during prep to tie in Units 2 and 3 with a new off-gas pollution prevention unit. Both men were treated at St. Joseph Hospital Joliet. Seals released, Taylor kept overnight with good condition reported. Damage minimal, no radiation involved, and startup of the off-gas unit expected within days as Units 2 and 3 remain shut down for integration.

Fine youths plead guilty to marijuana possession in Grundy Court
Two Rockford youths Mark A. Johnson and Christopher H. Tulley both 19 pleaded guilty Tuesday in Grundy County Circuit Court to possession of marijuana. Each was fined 300 dollars and placed on six months probation. They must continue in the Northern Illinois Council of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence program. They were arrested Oct 3, 1972 after Morris Patrolman Harold Carlson stopped Johnson for a 50 mph in a 30 mph zone on Bedford Road at Lisbon Road.

Three-truck crash on I 80 injures two
At 3 45 a m today a three semi trailer crash on Interstate 80 about 1 5 miles east of Illinois 71 injured two men and caused 65 000 in vehicle damage. James Randall 29 of New Windsor Ill struck Daniel Neideffer 21 of Jasper Ind causing steel to spill and jackknife Vanderkolk 41 of Hamilton Mich. All three drivers were hospitalized with Neideffer listed fair and Randall serious. Vanderkolk treated and released. Police investigation ongoing.

Fire officials began cleanup after a blaze gutted four of five connected stores in Marseilles. A crane operated at the site while firefighters kept water on smoldering debris for about 26 hours. The cause remains unknown and arson is not suspected.

Yorkville murder case moves to Rockford for Tuesday motions

Agreement for CC doctor to start practice July first
Commissioner John Nicoletti of Coal City announced a verbal agreement with Dr Edmundo Relucio to begin practicing in Coal City on July 1. Relucio, born in the Philippines, has practiced at Hines VA Hospital in Chicago for two years and received his Illinois license in 1972. He is a general surgeon and can leave Hines in June.
