New 24-rank pipe organ to debut at Bethlehem Lutheran

A new two-manual 24-rank pipe organ by Schlicker Organ Co will be usable on Palm Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris. The console is mechanical action while Blond oak woodwork matches church interiors. The organ, designed by Dr. Paul Burnes, required about 40,000 dollars raised by January 1971, replacing a four-rank instrument moved into the church two decades ago.

Three-car crash injures Lincolnwood and Seneca residents

Robert E Hirschuick 21 of Lincolnwood and Richard P Partridge 31 of Seneca were treated and released at Morris Hospital after a Friday crash on Illinois 47 at Dupont Rd. Partridge, heading north, stopped to turn left when hit from behind by Hirschuick whose car then struck a trailer towed by Robert Ehlers 40 of Saunemin. Ehlers reported Hirschuick crossed the center line after the initial impact. Hirschuick blamed a distraction by an unknown youth. Police ticketed Hirschuick for speed and brake defects. he faces court April 16.

Unit district committees form study group for Morris schools

A Citizens Study Committee will meet at 7 30 p m Thursday at Franklin School to organize working groups and evaluate the potential consolidation of Saratoga Nettle Creek and Morris Grade and High School districts. Fire guts four Marseilles stores in downtown blaze

Firemen from Seneca, Ottawa, Grand Ridge and Serena battled flames through the night in Marseilles downtown. Four two story brick front buildings south of the railroad were gutted Sanders Willard Gleason furniture and hardware store was destroyed. No injuries reported. Damage estimate unavailable. Fire cut cable TV service and lowered water pressure. crews pumped from the Illinois River. Cause unknown.

Morris Co High Board Meets Wednesday For Growth Committee

Morris Community High School Board plans an adjourned meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the school to discuss a growth committee recommendation from faculty representatives. Topics include a $30 per credit provision to take effect June 1, 1973 for eligible retroactive cases, Grundy Area Vocational Center matters, and the special education cooperative administration. An executive session will cover GAVC negotiations.

Transcript hearing to detach acres from Joliet 204

Grundy County Board of School Trustees will resume the transcript hearing at 7 30 p m Tuesday in the county superintendent's office. The 4000 acre detachment from Joliet Township High School District 204 to Minooka High School District 111 began Feb 28 and follows Will County denials in October and January. Attorneys may present opening statements and arguments before a decision.

Illinois lawmaker indicted for tax and mail fraud charges

State Rep William D Cox of Charleston co majority whip was arrested after an indictment charging falsification of income tax returns and mail fraud. The 18 counts cover 1968 to 1971 with alleged unreported income from secretarial services paid to Pauline Monier. Cox faces up to 82 years in prison and a 43000 fine if convicted on all counts. The case notes ongoing probes into secretarial salaries paid by other lawmakers.

North Vietnam agrees to release last POWs in Vietnam

Saigon reports North Vietnam has agreed to release the final 139 American prisoners held in Vietnam in exchange for withdrawal of remaining U.S. forces. The plan schedules 32 prisoners to Hanoi on Tuesday, 40 on Wednesday, and 67 on Thursday at Gia Lam airport, with Laos prisoners to follow “very soon.” The move delays the Paris peace agreement timetable by one day for both POW release and troop withdrawal.
