The Morris Daily Herald reports Woodstock plans to phase out downtown parking meters starting March 31 after a 25 year run to boost shoppers. The move follows a council vote and details on meter revenue, fines, and signposted rules amid parking pressures in Morris.

Fire destroyed a 50 by 100 foot barn near Stonewall Road and Lincoln Road after reports of gatherings at the site. Deputy Roy E. Christensen notes broken power lines and no wiring to the barn. The 2000 bushels of corn owned by Roy Reader and a large combine owned by Alvin Olson were stored inside along with other farm equipment. Fire departments from South Wilmington and Gardner responded.
State trooper Michael Cofield of Beecher, 30, underwent surgery at St Marys Hospital Kankakee after his squad car collided with a semi at the Interstate 57 exit ramp. He remains stable. Edward Brown 55 of Chicago drove the semi. Cofield joined the state police in February 1968.
A Thursday sanity hearing for Homer Couch 21 of the Arlington Hotel Aurora was continued to Tuesday at 9 30 a m. Couch and David Morris 24 of 715 Spring St Aurora are charged with the January 22 murder of Donald Kirklin 36 of the Arlington Hotel. A jury will not be required for Tuesday’s hearing. Couch is examined by two Aurora psychologists. Both defendants are held without bond in Kane and Kendall counties.
