Nations near agreement on missing servicemen in Vietnam

The United States, North and South Vietnam and the Viet Cong near a joint search plan for missing Americans. A 56 member team from the four parties would operate from Nak hom Phanom air base to search Cambodia and Laos, with a task force to take years. 1,300 U.S. servicemen are listed missing in Indochina.

Supreme Court upholds 50 day voter residency rule

The Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, allows states to require up to 50 days for residency and registration in state and local elections, saying this extends beyond 30 days but stays within constitutional limits. The ruling covers Arizona and Georgia and notes states have a vital interest in preparing accurate voter records and guarding against fraud. Dissenters were Marshall, Douglas, and Brennan.

Rock collection on display at Morris Public Library

Paul Ziegenfuss has a rock and mineral display on three shelves at the Morris Public Library. The collection includes marcasite from Ohio, dolomite from Kentucky, amber calcite from Indiana, various quartz from Brazil to Canada, and Ohio flint from a local quarry. Ziegenfuss, a new Morris resident since 1971, promotes quarrying as a good source for minerals and notes his amber calcite with marcasite inclusions as his favorite.

Buchholz to Speak at Grundy County Crusade Kickoff

David L. Buchholz of Chicago Illinois District Seven American Cancer Crusade chairman will speak at the Grundy County chapter 1973 kickoff at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the First National Bank of Morris. Area chairmen and other group chairmen meet at 7 30 p.m. Cancer Crusade kits will be distributed. Buchholz a partner of Arthur Andersen in Chicago served as state coordinator for Illinois during 1972 Crusade.

Morris Area to Receive 16000 New Illinois Bell Directories

Illinois Bell will mail over 16 000 Morris area phone books starting tomorrow. The Morris directory adds emergency numbers a street map and a zip code list in front matter plus call guidance toll free area codes and current rates. Customers who miss delivery by March 31 should call 942 9981 for prompt arrangements.

Nine Bodies Recovered After Barrie Highway Crash

A blinding snowstorm on a Barrie Ontario highway caused a massive pileup involving more than 30 vehicles including a bus and a lumber truck. Nine bodies were recovered from burned wreckage and at least six more people were believed trapped as investigators pried open vehicles. Over 40 injured remained in hospital with serious injuries. death toll may rise for days.

Zoning and Annexation Hearing Set by Morris Planning Commission

A pre annexation agreement for 42.731 acres west of Lisbon Road and north of Harmon Acres will be heard at 7 30 p m Tuesday by the Morris Planning Commission. A second public hearing on 14.74 acres for R III multiple family housing is scheduled the same night. Developers include M Victor Scott Richard D Tyler James A Tyler and the First National Bank of Morris as trustee. Acreage reaches Interstate 80 north. At Feb 21 meeting 45 single family lots are platted with rest for small apartments and a three acre church site for American Lutheran Church.

National president to speak at civic dinner

Miss Jean L. McCarrey, president elect of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, will speak at Morris's civic dinner at 6:30 p.m. next Monday at the Morris Holiday Inn. Tickets cost $6, with sales limited to 275 and a Friday deadline.

Santo Parents Die In California Crash

Chicago Cub third baseman Ron Santo’s parents, John Constantino and Vivian, were killed in a multiple car crash near Amboy California. Police reported they were pronounced dead at Barstow hospital.
