Two Ball Park Proposals Presented to Morris Council

Recreation committee and Citizens Lighted Ball Park Committee present two sites for a funded project near Shabbona School east of Union Street and a 20 acre Borens estate site north of George Street. Morris Grade School Board votes 4-1 to lease land to the city with a buyback option after three years.

McTague Files for Reelection to Morris Education Board

Incumbent Gerald McTague age 41 filed at 8:30 a.m. today to seek a third term on the Morris Education Board, completing two consecutive three-year terms. James Peterson, 37, also filed for a three-year term. Donald Zwiers, 40, will not run. No filings yet for the Morris Community High School Board. Philip Zink filed for re election to the Saratoga Grade School Board. his term and Robert Hecht’s expire. Final filing date is March 23.

Theft of shrubs from Goose Lake property

Donald Woodard of 1415 S Division St Plainfield reported to the Grundy County Sheriff's office at 11 20 p m Saturday that four Japanese Yews were stolen from his Jugtown Rd Goose Lake property sometime Friday evening. He estimated the shrubs cost 20 dollars each.

County officials review tax policy changes in Illinois

About one hundred members of the Zone VI Illinois Association of County Board Members met at Morris Holiday Inn to discuss the U S Supreme Court ruling abolishing personal property tax in Illinois and related state bills. Speaker Cal Bastian noted corporations still pay tax while farms may be affected depending on incorporation. McMaster spoke on a $60 million reimbursement package and bills permitting vehicle tax levies in unincorporated county areas, plus EPA and Pollution Control Board standards aligning with federal norms to keep Illinois farmers competitive with Iowa and Indiana.

Accidents kill two men on U S 52 and I 80

Two men died in separate Friday traffic crashes. Harold R. Waller, 45, of Minooka, ran off U S 52 near Ridge Road at about 60 to 70 mph, struck a bridge abutment, and died of head injuries after hospitalization. Douglas K. Miller, 28, of Ogelsby, went off I 80 near Brisbin Road, skidded 225 feet, hit a bridge pier, rolled, and died at Morris Hospital. Miller was an Illinois Bell lineman on temporary assignment to Romeoville. Funeral plans were set for Waller at Sonntag-Wylie Funeral Home. Miller’s service at Shields Funeral Home, Oglesby.

Morris Grade School Board Meeting Preview

The Morris Grade School Board of Education will meet 8 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin School to discuss the unit feasibility study and the ball park at Shabbona School. Action expected on resignations of Doris M. Heine and Gordon Davis, a maternity leave request from Karen Anderson, and changes on leasing McKinley School to the YMCA and report cards.

Kane Removal Sought As Morris High Board Meeting Set

The Morris Community High School Board of Education will hold an executive session at 7 30 p m Wednesday in the administrative offices to consider removing Kane as head football coach for unethical and unprofessional conduct. Other items include leaves of absence for Kane and Judy Heifner, a teacher, a resignation by Ray Ansell, and staff moves for secretarial and lay committee appointments plus five year plans for tech ed. A tour of the ag department is planned at 7 p m.

Lanark town stunned by IHSA eligibility ruling

Lanark Illinois, a 1200 strong farming town, reels as its undefeated high school basketball team is ruled ineligible for the Class A state tournament. Residents blame a rule not in the official book, with court action underway and locals debating the impact on the players and community.
