Jury Hears Banks Case as Baby Dies Before Indictment
In Grundy County the case of Marion Lee Banks 19 charged with cruelty and aggravated battery in the death of his four month old daughter Michelle is heard by the grand jury. The infant died at 4 45 a m at Silver Cross Hospital Joliet after a critical condition in ICUsince Wednesday night An autopsy was ordered by Will County coroner Willard Blood with results due later today Banks bond set at 50000 and his lawyers named as David Root and Robert Adcock The jury paused for a lunch break and banter revolved around another case Donald Mack Flippin faced with a potential burglary indictment

Iowa girl dies after I-80 crash near Illinois 47
An 18 year old Des Moines woman Katherine Karras was killed when the car she rode in for a ride home from an unknown location skidded on a slippery road and wind driven conditions on Interstate 80 four miles east of Illinois 47. The driver Paul Chastain 19 suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized in Morris. Three other passengers were injured and treated. Ira Cruckshank 49 and his wife Elizabeth 46 were treated and released after their car collided with the Chastain vehicle. Authorities reported no tickets issued and total loss for the Volkswagen. The victim's body was moved to the University of Iowa Medical School.

A series of winter weather related crashes struck Grundy County with heaviest activity on Illinois 47 and U S 6. Ebert Hume 22 of R 4 Morris was treated for a facial cut after his Chevelle hit an abutment on an I 80 overpass. George Coley 16 and James Hammond were injured in a two car collision on Clennon Rd near the Rock Island crossing. Leonard Steinberg 73 of Morris with head and facial cuts lost control near Browns Hill. Four others escaped injury in a two car crash on Illinois 47 near Morris airport. William Zauralsky 24 of Minooka slid into a ditch on Mondamon St near Ridge Rd. Jo Anne McDaniel 22 of Urbana Theodore Daum 45 of Joliet and Joy Hamric 16 of Route 5 were involved in separate icy road incidents near Sherril Rd and Stine School Rd.

Washington Fire Kills 3 Children
An explosion and fire at a Washington home in Tazewell County killed Katheryn Ksychi seven Deborah five and Lawrence three. Officials suspect propane gas tank leak sparked the blast as investigators begin to determine the cause. $1 Million Contract for NPC Plant
A contract valued at nearly $1 million was awarded to the Fuller Co. of Catasauqua Pennsylvania to supply the complete pneumatic material handling system for all polyethylene produced at Northern Petrochemical Company’s Morris plant.
