Coal City village board discussed either temporary or new quarters for the library after a 45 minute session with three library board members. They directed the treasurer to obtain Bar Oak system estimates for a library to serve 5 000 people near the city park.
Illinois Pollution Control Board allows Dresden nuclear Unit 3 near Morris to operate on a test basis as it meets thermal standards. Unit 2 must be shut for refueling before Unit 3 can start. Commonwealth Edison warns of potential summer power shortages without Dresden 3. board had delayed operations until cooling lake is finished. Byron Lee says delaying Dresden 3 would harm the public interest.
The Morris City Council voted unanimously to approve B-3 zoning for three and a half acres north of Romine's Standard Plaza annexed Feb 3 enabling Standard Oil to pursue a motel project. Council also discussed lighting at McKinley Park and park maintenance.
Joliet high school teachers ratified a two year contract including a 5 to 15 percent workload increase and a 6.5 percent salary boost over the period. Starting pay rises from 8200 to 9000 for the second year, with Local 604 representing 250 teachers. The vote was 165 to 25.
Grundy County Supervisors heard a Whiteside County landfill model with township joining costs and per load charges. The board approved funds for aerial photos, supported inheritance tax allocation changes, and set a plan for Homestead Exemption Act handling with escrow option. A rabies inspection and county reports were discussed before a noon executive session.
Richard Esgar Donald Plott LeRoy Gilmoure and Donald Lowery filed petitions for the two expiring terms on the Mazon Grade School Board of Education. Gilmoure and Lowery are incumbents. As of Monday petitions came in from Esgar Plott and Gilmoure with a filing deadline March 19. Election hours are 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 10 at the Mazon Grade School.

A state highway representative will address the Morris Elementary Board of Education on the Illinois 47 widening project at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Franklin School. The agenda lists reports from the architect on Shabbona School and parking, plus a negotiation report and approval of costs for a new superintendent's office.
Coal City Community School District board member Robert Pogliano urged restoring Goose Lake as a polling place for next year. The February action cut Goose Lake from five to two polling sites for the April 10 election, prompting concerns about longer travel for Goose Lake voters.
A 25 year old Canadian, Charles Robert Fox of Lordminister Saskatchewan, was killed on Interstate 80 five miles east of Marseilles Road when struck by a Morris driver, Stuart A. Brown 19, of Route 3 Morris. Brown and Fox were near a horse type van pulled onto the shoulder. Brown survived with minor injuries. Mrs Ruth Fox, age 25, was uninjured. The coroner noted Fox was en route to Topeka to pick up cattle and that Mrs Fox was pregnant.
