The weekly Campus passenger train to Champaign Urbana left Central Station on time Sunday. Two youths reaching the platform a minute late were stranded. The station, dating from 1893, closes for good as Chicago depots shrink under Amtrak centralization and aging facilities.
U S Senator Adlai Stevenson III told about 75 at Eagle Hall Grundy County he is studying sludge reuse and transport costs while reviewing a Commonwealth Edison planned Brookfield nuclear plant in LaSalle County. He noted Medicare reforms and Illinois reliance on federal funds, and endorsed Paul Simon for governor and Senator Muskie.
Congressman Leslie Arends lauded Nixon's trip to China during a Republican luncheon at the Colonial House in Morris. He discussed China Taiwan policy, Medicare concerns, and fiscal challenges while detailing district changes and rural funding efforts. State Rep. James Washburn urged support for Arends.

Legal arguments opened in Chicago Circuit Court in a suit by Argonne National Laboratory staff against the University of Chicago. The plaintiffs claim $5.7 million in dividends from Prudential Life Insurance Co. were diverted from reinvestment in the pension plan between 1948 and 1968. They seek pension increases to reflect the lost funds for about 3,500 workers.
The Grundy County Jail does not meet Illinois County Jail Standards and is deemed inadequate due to age and design. A Dec 20 1971 inspection summary calls for immediate steps to plan a new jail or regional solution, with all areas rated poor or fair including custody and security, building and equipment, safety, and programs.
AP reports lobbyist Dita D. Beard could testify from her hospital room to Senate investigators probing claims about acting Attorney General Richard G. Kleindienst. Doctor Victor Liszka said Beard shows severe coronary heart disease and urges a physician be present during any questioning.
The Grundy County Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a 7 30 p m hearing Tuesday to rezone about 800 acres from agriculture to MN in Braceville Township. Petitioners include Robert Anderson Ramora Lucas Vernon Ray Hauschild John D Dondaville Dean McKinney Robert B Trotter and the Gulf Mobile and Ohio railroad.

Items include terminating a teaching contract for Mrs. Anne Berglund, confirming a Grundy Area Vocational Center open house date, and a report on dual-unit equality and investment interest for last quarter.
