First conviction for rent increase under price freeze

The U S Bureau of Labor Statistics reports February unemployment fell from 5.9 to 5.7 percent while average weekly earnings rose 35 cents to 130 27. About 5.4 million unemployed, 79.3 million employed, and a 12 minute longer average workweek. Men at 4.0 percent jobless, women down to 5.0 percent, teenagers up to 18.8 percent.

Minooka man burns in Dresden plant accident
Donald Sprague, 27, of Minooka, was critically burned when a crane boom struck a 34 000 volt line at Commonwealth Edison property near Morris. He is employed by F J Conry of Tinley Park and treated at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

Smoke interrupts local bowlers at Echo Lanes
Dense smoke interrupted bowling at Echo Bowling Lanes on Bedford Road Thursday evening when cleaning rags caught fire and smoke entered the ventilation system. No one was seriously injured. Butterfield's son suffered a very minor injury. Firefighters responded with two trucks, used a mechanical smoke ejector, and cleared the building after the alarm at about 7:45 to 8:25 p.m. No written report was available this morning.
