Three calls occupied Morris Fire Department on Wednesday. A horse and rider were rescued from mud near a coal chute at Coal Chute Road. A person was freed from an elevator stuck between floors at Baum's on Liberty Street. Crews also washed Lisbon Road and Nelson Road after a traffic crash.

Ambulance Technician Course Offered by IVCC this Summer
Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby partners with St. Mary's Trauma Center to offer Emergency Medical Technician Ambulance training from July 30 for 13 weeks 7 to 10 pm. The program, limited to 25 students, leads to National Registry EMT Ambulance exam eligibility and five IVCC college credits for those who pass.

Lambert to Start Pilot Training With Air Force
David R. Lambert of Plainfield has been selected for USAF undergraduate pilot training with class starting August 15. A 1969 Plainfield High School graduate and Lewis College alum, he earned a B A in Mathematics and held roles in campus clubs, chorale, and student government. Upon Officer Training School completion at Lackland AFB he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant.

Minooka Homecoming Underway With Parades Contests And Carnival
Minooka hosts a five day Homecoming starting Wednesday with a Lions Club Food Stand at the fire station serving refreshments through Sunday. A downtown carnival features rides booths and family events. Friday includes Kids Contests at 6 p m and Saturday features Baby Contest Kiddie Parade and Garden Tractor Pull plus the crowning of the 1973 Homecoming Queen at 5 p m. A dance at 9 p m Saturday night and a Sunday parade begin at 1 p m with units gathered at 12 30 p m at the elementary school. Special parade participants include local officials and area floats. Proceeds benefit the Lions Park Fund.
