Van Stolen From Oak Park Burned Near Seneca

A 1977 Chevrolet Blazer stolen from Oak Park was set on fire on Kinsman Rd 2.5 miles north of Grand Ridge Rd at 5 40 a m Grundy County Deputy Sheriff Thomas Walker reported finding a gas can a trail from the gas cap area to the road a long object in the gas tank and matches at the scene Patrick Carbon III of Oak Park is named owner and the vehicle valued at 10000 was towed by Stafford Towing Seneca Fire Department and Officer Lester Loucks assisted at the scene.

Five CB units stolen in Morris from park and carnival cars

Morris police investigate thefts of five 23 channel CB radios from vehicles parked around Goold Park and Morris High School carnival area. Vehicles included a van, two pickups, and two cars. values range from 25 to 250 dollars with multiple windows pried and wiring disconnected.

Oswego 2-year-old drowns in pond near home

Samuel J. Gray of 50 Timberlake Trail Oswego drowned Saturday after his mother last saw him at 3 p.m. The Bristol Kendall Fire Rescue Squad found the boy in a pond at 6:45 p.m. Kendall County Coroner William Dunn pronounced him dead at the scene.

Morris Post Office Announces July 4 Holiday Schedule

Morris Postmaster William V. Martin says no regular postal service on Monday July 4 in Morris city limits. Only special delivery mail will be handled. lobby hours are 10 am to 4 pm with lockboxes stamp vending and photocopier access. Outgoing mail departs at 4 pm and white star boxes pickup is 3 pm. regular hours resume July 5.

Two Youths Injured In Illinois River Boat Accident

On the Illinois River east of Illinois 47 about 2 p m Saturday two youths were injured. Timothy Murtaugh 17 Batavia in fair condition at Morris Hospital with lacerations and possible hip injury. John Osaw 19 Aurora treated and released for a leg cut and abrasions.

Minooka Ding A Lings sponsored event drew twelve entries including a pony and a rabbit. Winners were Andrew Hawkinson for funniest, Lynn Schulte for prettiest, and Mark Franck for most original. Elizabeth Hawkinson as Hollie Hobbie received a prize. Cash awards and ribbons given. judges were Dollie Jeffries Shirley Coyne and Judy Tierney.

Minooka Grade School Board of Education will meet Wednesday July 6 at 8 p.m. in the elementary building on Coady Drive. This will be the only grade school board meeting held in July.

Dixon extends license plate deadline to July 29

Secretary of State Alan J. Dixon announced a 29 day extension to display current 1976 77 fiscal year license plates on second division vehicles. The extension ends July 29. Milage tax trucks and trailers are not included.

Trible to donate $13,000 pay raise to scholarships

Rep. Paul Trible says he opposed his $13,000 congressional pay raise and will give the funds to charity. He established two $1,000 yearly scholarships at Hampton Institute and Hampden-Sydney College for students in his 1st Congressional District, fulfilling a pledge to donate any salary increase to education.

Cyclist hurt during chase in Illinois county

Three people were injured in weekend area accidents. Frank Powers III, 29, of Hazel Crest, was treated in fair condition at Ingalls Hospital after a pursuit by a Grundy County sergeant. Powers’ motorcycle struck a car driven by Harold Carlson on Illinois 113 at Irving Street Coal City.

Morris Country Club marks 50th anniversary celebration

The Morris Country Club celebrated 50 years of operation with a Roaring 20s dinner. Charter members Loren B. Sackett and Edith Page attended, while others were honored. President Peter Trucano announced expansion plans and course improvements planned by Memorial Day.
