The Morris City Council discussed financing the $900000 Armstrong St project with a 15 year or 20 year term. A 20 year loan won by 4 to 3 vote would free motor fuel tax funds for future projects despite higher interest.
The Illinois House approved a $150 million bonding package to fund the Crosstown compromise with a $50 million share for the Crosstown Expressway. The vote moved the measure toward the Senate as lawmakers clashed over funding for Chicago projects and related amendments.
Grundy County sheriff reports a downed power line west of Illinois 47 near Southmor Road at 4 45 p m. with Commonwealth Edison repairing the line. Power outage lasted about 20 minutes while Sgt Frank Schmitt directed traffic at Illinois 47 and Pine Bluff Road as lights were out.
The high court, in a 7 to 2 ruling, upheld a 1974 lower court decision affirming government control over Richard Nixon era tapes and 42 million documents. Brennan delivered the majority opinion, rejecting Nixon claims of executive privilege and separation of powers challenges.
Bond was set at 100000 in Grundy County Circuit Court for two Wilmington youths charged with armed robbery of the Enco Service Station in Gardner. Sammye D. Davis Jr. and Susan White, both 19, were arrested within minutes of the 1049 a.m. robbery after a pursuit and ISPERN dispatch. A .22 caliber pistol was turned over to detectives. about $65 was recovered.
Verona youth Lloyd Henry Jr. 15 and his mother Edith Henry 49 were ticketed by Morris police after a crash near 619 Price St. Henry faced charges for no license, leaving the scene, and improper lane use. Mrs. Henry cited for allowing an unauthorized driver. Court set for July 28. Witnesses Brenda Lynes and Michael Niewinski identified. Damage totals exceed $100 to the Henry car and $100 to Udstuen’s vehicle.
The Illinois Commerce Commission hearing on Commonwealth Edison proposed 345 kV line from LaSalle Nuclear Power Station to Frankfort continues Wednesday. Three Grundy County residents oppose the route, while Edison and intervenors recently reached an agreement to use single poles on part of the line.
A helicopter used for spraying crops crashed in a field between Woodstock and Crystal Lake, injuring no one. Pilot James Franseen, 20, of Sharon, Wisconsin, an employee of Hendrickson Flying Service of Rochelle, said a wind failure caused a loss of altitude and a rotor blade struck a power pole before the craft landed on its side near U.S. Route 14.
