The Lodge Sale Brings Keepsakes From Keeley Institute

Furnishings from the Keeley Institute at Dwight were auctioned over two days marking the end of the world famous alcoholism treatment center. The Lodge will be reopened as Dining venue Country Mansion by Mr and Mrs Robert Ohlendorf who buy the property with 2.5 acres front and 6.5 acres rear. The auction included a 7 foot knight armour crescent engraved 1796 bronze cannon and autographed lithographs.

Investigation of 1800 Check Disbursement in Treasurer Office

Grundy County finance committee unanimously urged a county board investigation into eight checks totaling 1800 paid to former County Treasurer Pauline Coleman and staff from the Personal Property Protest Fund. The payments, dated Nov 25 1974, covered extra clerk hire and other expenses linked to escrow funds held since 1971 amid a Supreme Court case. The county board plans to review the request at the July 12 meeting with officials Baudino Cacello Trotter Wallin and Waters in attendance.

Kendall County Board Approves Pay Hikes for Officials

Kendall County supervisors authorize salary increases for the Supervisor of Assessments Ray Waclaw to 26 000 by 1980 81 and approve smaller raises for Victor Frantz and Adele Reynolds of Court Services. The board funds Region IV LEIC costs and awards a 3 400 bid for courthouse air conditioning. It notes jail inspection compliance and proposes safety upgrades including fire alarm, hose nozzle, and dual exits.

Five Die in Interstate 55 Crash Near Chan Nahon

Five people were killed when a semi overturned onto a car about 7:15 a.m. on Interstate 55 near Chan Nahon, according to Illinois State Police. The truck driver and all four car occupants died in the crash.

A fatal crash on Interstate 55 near Morris involved a northbound truck tire blowout causing a rollover and fire, with a 34-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man among the victims from Chicago. Troy and Channahon Fire Departments responded and one southbound lane was closed for hours. Coroner not yet notified.

Bridge Closure In East Brooklyn For New Span

The South Wilmington East Brooklyn Bridge will close Monday as Charles O'Brien and Son begin constructing a new bridge. The project, over the east fork of the Mazon River, will cost about 360000 dollars and last at least two months. A detour will be marked around the site.

Woman killed near Mendota in Illinois 34 crash

A two vehicle crash on Illinois 34 west of Mendota left Irene Terando dead at the scene. Joseph Terando 45 suffered injuries while his children Patrice 7 Jo Marie 18 and Joseph Jr 12 were in serious condition at area hospitals. The other driver was Robert Schmidt 22 from Earlville and was uninjured.

Minooka theft charges after junior high burglary

A two month Grundy County investigation led to misdemeanor theft charges against six Minooka youths and juvenile petitions against two others for the April 25 burglary at Minooka Junior High School. Five suspects posted $100 bonds for July court appearance. others to surrender.

Ten Missing In Landslide Buries Homes In Kagoshima

A landslide in Kagoshima city buried 111 houses and severed a key railway line in Kagoshima province. Ten people were reported missing as heavy rainfall over weeks triggered the slide, cutting a railway link between Kagoshima and other Kyushu cities.

Pinkert case hearing reset to July 5 at Kendall County

The preliminary hearing for Harold Pinkert was continued to 2 30 p m July 5 at the Kendall County Courthouse by Judge Fred M Morelli. Pinkert is charged with the murder of his ex wife Beulah Wykes of rural Oswego. Bail remained at 100000 with 10000 posted and Pinkert to stay in Presbyterian St Luke's Hospital locked ward under head psychiatrist care.
