South Vietnamese paratroopers and South Korean marines led ground fighting in Vietnam on Sunday and reported 148 Communist deaths. U S units ran 21 major sweeps with light contact. A Chinook helicopter rescued infantry trapped in an armored carrier after a mine blast. 173rd Airborne Brigade elements reported grenade incidents and 106 North Vietnamese regulars killed with 80 U S paratroopers dead and 130 wounded.

Meredith May Cut 25 Miles From March

James H. Meredith led a small group through Mississippi on the renewed march against fear saying he may stop at Canton about 25 miles from Jackson. He spoke on his 34th birthday and recalled last year’s ambush and riots near Ole Miss.

Fight Turns Fatal? Car Mishap in Coal City Brawl

A Sunday clash in Coal City left Jim Kutzschebauch of Joliet badly bruised and later hit by his own car. He was hospitalized in St. Joseph Joliet in good condition with x rays pending. Suspect Richard Jacklich from Carbon Hill fled on a Honda after a dispute over an unidentified female. Jacklich was later arrested for reckless driving and charged with battery by Pete Kapogiannis. The injured man was moved from Morris Hospital to St. Joseph Joliet for further treatment.

Injured Hitchhiker Dies After Illinois 47 Crash

A hitchhiker died after a collision on Illinois 47 about a half mile south of Morris Airport. Michael Paul Farrell, 67, probably of Hallard Florida, died at Morris Hospital. He was thrown from a car driven by Lawrence T. Meyers, 17, of Cary. Sheriff's deputies and the county coroner were at the scene.

Boat accident on Kankakee River claims one life

The June 18 boating crash near the Grundy Will County line bridge killed John C. Major 36 of Carbon Hill. He was treated earlier for injuries and died at 4 40 p m Saturday. Five Day Weather Outlook For Morris Area

The forecast calls for temperatures about three degrees below the normal high of 81 to 88 and low of 60 to 66 with a warmer period Tuesday or Wednesday. Precipitation totals should reach half to three quarters of an inch in showers, mainly Tuesday through Wednesday and again Friday or Saturday. Parts of the period will be partly cloudy with highs in the 80s and lows near 60. The Collins Weather Station reported 83 Saturday high and 52 low with .05 inches precipitation. Kosygin Flies To Cuba After Talks With Johnson

Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin departed Kennedy Airport for Cuba after a nine day visit to the United States. He met with President Johnson in Glassboro and pressed the Arab cause at the United Nations. The flight to Havana was expected to last about four hours.

Leg Broken in Auto Accident Near Gardner

Geraldine Page 22 of Bradley was admitted to Morris Hospital with a broken left leg after a southbound car skidded 131 feet along a guard rail and struck the Mazonia Bridge two miles north of Gardner near Riviera Restaurant. Deputy Sherman Hexdall noted the 9 10 p m crash and the car was towed from the scene by a Gardner wrecker.
