Sludge appeal hearing on SEMCO permit denied by county
Grundy County Board of Appeals will hear SEMCO’s appeal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the courthouse regarding a denial of a sludge operation permit in Norman Township. SEMCO began spreading sludge May 10 on the Dunn property six miles west of Illinois 47. The CMSD sends sludge by rail six nights weekly under a $2.25 million contract to remove 420 000 wet tons, with EPA permit limits and a completion deadline of November 15, 1971 for a 1300 acre project.

Four city accidents leave no injuries reported
Four city accidents occurred Monday with no injuries. At Spruce and Douglas Streets a two vehicle collision blocked by a low hanging tree left drivers with limited view. Other incidents on Liberty Street and Washington Street involved rear end and backing collisions, respectively, with no injuries.
