Wholesale price index rises on steel and fuels
The May wholesale price index climbed 0.4 percent led by higher steel and metal prices and a sharp rise in gasoline. The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes metals and fuels drove about 70 percent of the increase, lifting the index to 113.8 with a 3.4 percent year over year gain and a 4.3 percent six month rate, the strongest since 1970.

Lemont Fire Dept Treats 11 for Chlorine Gas Escape
The Lemont Fire Department treated 11 people for exposure after a chlorine gas leak at the Steelco Chemical Co plant near Lemont. Fire Chief George Smollen said the cause was undetermined but the leak was stopped after a 6:15 a.m. alarm. No mass evacuation occurred. one person needed hospital care for nausea and breathing issues.

State Senator Robert W. Mitchler of Oswego was ticketed for failure to reduce speed after his auto rear ended a car driven by Miss Sandra Wilkom of Gardner three miles north of U S 66 in Grundy County. Mitchler, 50, was uninjured. his 1967 Chevrolet was towed from the scene.
