Viet Cong mortars and recoilless rifles hit the U S 25th Infantry command post at Cu Chi 18 miles northwest of Saigon in a 90 minute attack. U S artillery and napalm counters repelled the assault with very light American casualties.

Eight Indictments Filed Against Speck by Jury

CHICAGO AP Eight indictments charging murder were returned by the Cook County grand jury today against Richard Speck 24 held in the mass killing of eight nurses The indictments voted after hearing police and medical witnesses Monday were presented to Judge Edward F Healy The eight indictments each charged murder Speck roving seaman and odd jobs man is in a jail hospital under treatment for safety related wounds His condition was reported satisfactory and he walked in his room for the first time State's Attorney Daniel P Ward sought indictments to allow eight trials if necessary to win a conviction

Weather Outlook for Morris and Collins Station

The U S Weather Bureau forecasts partly cloudy skies tonight with thunder showers and a low in the lower 70s. Wednesday will bring cooler, partly cloudy weather with likely thundershowers and a high in the upper 80s. Observations show Collins Station reached 93 degrees yesterday with a 65 degree low and 9 am temperature at 77 while downtown Morris reported 86 at noon.

Morris City Council Reappoints Three Library Trustees

In Morris the city council reappointed Atty. William Hynds Mrs. Eugene Hayes and Price Dean to the library board for three-year terms. Aldermen approved street maintenance bids Charles O'Brien and Son won seal coat and aggregate at 5 157 92 and patching bids. The council authorized a No Parking study on Jefferson Street and discussed annexation notices for grain elevators and a proposed 450 000 industrial park project. Fines for June totaled 295 dollars and fuel oil bid advertising was authorized.

Morris council approves $916 105 city budget for 1966 67

The Morris City Council unanimously passed an appropriation ordinance setting total expenditures at 916 105 for May 1 1966 through April 30 1967 an increase of 158 050 over the preceding year Major rises include 50 000 for an incinerator and 50 000 for a secondary treatment plant in the water and sewer funds and 10 000 for new fire department equipment with smaller rises for police streets and parks departments.
