City approves $5.63 million appropriation for 1973 74
The city council approved an appropriations ordinance totaling $5,631,980 for 1973 74, a $3.3 million rise from last year. Lynes Named Grundy County Chief Juvenile Probation Officer
Robert L. Lynes, former Morris police chief since 1972, appointed chief juvenile probation officer for Grundy County effective August. He becomes the county’s first full time officer in the role, replacing part time staff with Phyllis Cohenour as assistant. Lynes is a Morris native and veteran of the 25th Infantry Division who also served as a police officer since 1961.

Edison to seek smaller cooling lake for Braidwood plant
Commonwealth Edison said it will petition the Illinois Commerce Commission next month to shrink the proposed 4 800 acre cooling lake for the Braidwood nuclear station in Will County near Morris. The company hopes to cut investment by about 25 million dollars, reducing annual interest costs by more than 3 million. The 2 000 acre lake would serve two 1 1 million kilowatt reactors planned to start around 1980, with the site entirely in Will County and part of land in nearby Kankakee County to be retained for future options.

Hornsby store rezoning hearing planned near U S 6 and I 47
A public hearing by the Morris Planning Commission will review a petition to rezone an eight acre tract north of the U S 6 and Illinois 47 intersection for an 80,000 square foot Hornsby store. The site spans B-III commercial and B-I residential zones. The store, similar to Yorkville and Pontiac Woodstock designs, would include parking for 430 cars.
