Edison and opponents reach LaSalle plant agreement
Interveners withdraw from an AEC hearing after Commonwealth Edison trims the site from 6,860 acres to under 3,000 and reduces the cooling lake to about 2,100 acres for a proposed two unit 1,100 megawatt nuclear plant south of Seneca and Marseilles Illinois. The board will reconvene July 18 to hear Edison testimony and staff recommendations while Edison reserves rights for future units within the larger site.

Richard Vaughn 20 of Joliet was arrested on a Grundy County warrant charging aggravated battery for a throat slashing of a hitchhiker near Minooka. A 29-year-old Joliet resident Thiris Smith also faces charges, with bail set at 50 000, and a 15-year-old Joliet youth faces juvenile proceedings.
