Yorkville Record Sold After 102 Years of Family Ownership

Kendall County Record, a Yorkville weekly, changes hands after three generations of Marshalls edit and publish it. Howard J. Pine and Jeanne H. Pine buy the paper, moving from Kendall County News in Plano, with printing shifting to offset. The sale effective July 1 ends Robert F. Marshalls long editorship and marks a new era for the county paper.

Illinois to beautify highways in Grundy Kendall counties

Federal highway beautification funds designated by the state will fund projects in Grundy and Kendall Counties. Along I 80 a 3.5 mile stretch west of Minooka will see scenic easements to retain views. In Kendall County a rest area on Illinois 47 at Galena Road will provide parking, picnic and sanitary facilities. Illinois has obligated 2,996,255 of 3,000,000 allocated, with most funds for primary highway rest stops.

Weather Outlook With Thunderstorms Tonight and Warm Temperatures

The Weather Bureau predicts possible thunderstorms tonight with a low in the lower 70s. Wednesday brings partly cloudy skies and cooler conditions with morning thundershowers and a high in the upper 80s. Thursday should be partly sunny with little change. Collins Station recorded 97 degrees Monday, 72 overnight, and Morris reported 87 degrees at 9 am and 93 degrees at 11:15 am.

County Board Backs Plan for New Lake Project

Grundy County Board supports Joliet Regional Port District plan to create an artificial lake on Joliet Arsenal land to supply water and recreation for Grundy Will and Kankakee counties. Board also extends county office fund five years and approves election claims totaling 5 401 85 with 4 480 for election judges.

Red Cross Holds Annual Grundy County Meeting

The Grundy County Chapter of the American Red Cross held its annual meeting in the courthouse with Fred Hefler presiding. The year saw 560 pints of blood used, saving residents over $14,000 in out-of-pocket costs, and expanded services at Morris Hospital with new instructors and volunteers.

The widow of William E. Darlington a amateur boxer filed a Dram Shop suit in circuit court seeking 20000 damages. Defendants include Ginger's Way operator Ginger Carr and tavern owner Hans Braun. Darlington died after a Nov 8 liquor sale led to a collision with a train near Morris on U S 6. He earned about 650 monthly. two minor children are named.

Audit urges maximum garbage levy for next fiscal year

Ronald Evans of Seely and Evans in Chicago reviewed a year long auditor’s report for Mor ris city. The audit shows garbage fund cash receipts of 13 368.13 and expenses of 22 659.16 with net transfers in of 9 260.72. Total cash receipts for several funds were 219 778.80, short of expenditures by 955.60. Waterworks and sewage revenue reached 144 770.16 with 109 133.26 in spending. General corporate assets exceeded liabilities by 73 700.44 as of April 30 with 78 176.93 assets and 4 476.49 liabilities. Dept expenditures versus appropriations show large variances across finance police streets parks and other services.

Morris considers new water sewer plan for Hatcher's Woods subdivision

Morris Aldermen reopened discussion on funding and contracting for water and sewer service to Hatcher's Woods after a July 9 attorney letter reviewed previous motions. The council debated payments, rebates, and a city contract with Jean A. McCoy and Sons, with no action taken, while approving other bids and planning future meetings.
