Two Grundy County Cadets Set to Graduate ISP Academy

Fire damages home after fallen wire in Coal City

Coal City Fire Department responded at 6 30 a m to Miss Edith Martis home to extinguish a fire caused by a fallen electrical wire. Minor damage was reported.

Weather outlook reads warm and partly cloudy with storms

The U S Weather Bureau notes tonight will be partly cloudy and warm with a chance of a thunderstorm and a low in the 70s. Tuesday expects sunny hot conditions with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening and highs around the mid to upper 90s. The Collins Weather Station reports 95 on Saturday, 59 low, 102 Sunday high, 65 night, and 75 inches of rain total.

Three Injured in Two Car Crash on Route 66

Saturday head on collision near Braceville left three people hospitalized. Albert Carlson 72 of Gardner and Angelo Passini 78 of Essex injured. Carlson’s wife 68 improved. Passini cited for improper lane usage. ambulance transported all to Morris Hospital.

Three U S Helicopters Downed In Vietnam Conflict

Viet Cong forces shot down three American helicopters in South Vietnam. Four U S and nine South Vietnamese soldiers were killed, while two U S jets were lost in air combat. The attack followed renewed strikes on North Vietnamese fuel depots near Dien Bien Phu and along the coast.

House Burns Two Story Farm Near Seneca

Grass Fire Suppressed in Pine Grove Subdivision

Mor ris Fire Department responded to a trash fire in Pine Grove Subdivision at 1:55 a.m. before rain cooled the blaze. Crews also handled three calls for down electrical wires during the storm in Morris locations including E Washington St Nettle St and Division St. At 10:45 a.m. a grass fire near a popcorn crib in Wauponsee Township caused no damage.

Grundy County sales tax drops amid broad quarterly decline

Illinois Department of Revenue data show a $78 591 92 fall in Grundy County sales tax for January through March, offset by a 1966 total of $275 900 64, up $21 907 16 from 1965. Declines hit lumber and hardware and food, with Morris and other towns posting notable losses. Minooka, Carbon Hill and East Brooklyn bucked the trend with gains.

Peterson Suffers Injuries In U S 6 Crash

Wayne Peterson 35 of 438 Mooseheart Drive is in fair condition in the St. Joseph's Hospital Joliet ICU with chest injuries from a 1:25 a m Saturday crash on U S 6 at Mound Road. He collided with Robert Seaborg 31 of Lockport who was traveling east on Mound Road. Seaborg also in fair condition. Peterson, a former tavern owner and father of four, was driving west. Garrick Ambulance Joliet assisted as both cars were towed.

Tornadoes Strike Illinois Overnight Into Heatwave

Night storms ripped through northern Illinois with 80 mph winds and hundreds of thousands lost power. Tornado sightings near Pekin and McHenry caused injuries in accidents while one house was struck by a fallen tree. seiche waves along Lake Michigan caused shoreline changes but no major damage.

A northern thunderstorm with hail toppled trees, bent corn stalks, and caused power outages across Morris County after a 102 degree heat day at Collins Weather Station. Rain varied from 0.75 to 1.5 inches as crews cleared debris and restored lines, with Plattville and Coal City among hardest hit amid widespread outages and damaged infrastructure.
