The Coal City Community Unit No. 1 Board approves a 1973 74 tentative budget totaling 2 266 761 with revenue including 2 797 834 cash on hand. Public hearing set for 7 p m Aug 13. Randall Highsmith notes possible changes before adoption.
Coal City village board weighs whether Miss Yvonne Clark, caretaker, should receive equal pay to male workers. The session covers her $3.50 hourly rate, past experience, and authority questions. A Wednesday meeting is set to discuss the issue along with bids for police station work.
Donald Caisley 64 resigns as Morris mayor after health decline two months into term. Robert Gilbertson, second ward alderman, is named mayor pro tempore until elections. Caisley serves from May 1 and is hospitalized at St Joseph Hospital Joliet. The resignation letter cites deteriorating health and medical tests.
County Treasurer Pauline Coleman announced refunds for 1971 personal property taxes after a ruling on ownership and taxation. She noted 1972 bills must be mailed by July 14 with two payment dates set for August 15 and September 14, 1973, and refunds would go out July 31, 1973.

State Rep James R Washburn urged Governor Dan Walker to sign House Bill 1158 directing a DOT engineering study of the Mazon River watershed in Grundy County for flood control drainage and industrial planning The measure backed by Washburn was approved by both houses before the session adjourned He said timely results by April 1 1974 would guide future legislation and warned inadequate flood control has caused widespread damage to homes businesses and crops in the region
