Cold spell expected with near zero low tonight
Forecast calls for fair skies and a sharp drop in temperature with diminishing winds and a low near zero. Wednesday will be partly sunny but cold with highs between 15 and 20. Dresden Island Locks readings reached 46 on Monday with a 15 low. At 7 am today the temperature was 17 and there was a trace of precipitation. Downtown Morris measured 10 degrees at 11 am.

Railroad Grants Water Easement to Coal City
The Coal City Village Board approved a 10 inch asbestos cement water main easement near Kankakee Street at a $150 cost after Santa Fe railroad Superintendent C R Rose granted the easement. Truck Stalls On Tracks As Driver Flees
A rural Kinsman man escaped injury Monday evening by leaping from the cab of his pickup seconds before a Santa Fe train slammed into and demolished the vehicle at the Kinsman Road crossing at 7 p.m. Helmar Swanson, 49, was driving a 1969 International Harvester pickup that was totally wrecked. The northbound train sustained only minor damage.

Burglar Steals Cash and Items From Grundy Residence
Don Lingle reported a break in at his Grundy County home on Monday after returning at 10 p.m. to find the back door tripped open. Missing were $1,000 cash from a steel safe along with vehicle titles, a 22 caliber rifle, two boxes of .22 shells and two women’s watches.
