Morris Man Injured In Lombard Intersection Crash
Sigurd Hjemvick of 735 Main St was listed in fair condition at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital after his 1965 Chevrolet was struck broadside at the North Ave and Illinois 53 intersection in Lombard. Police say a Pontiac driven by 17 year old Joseph Marcellis of Wheaton was speeding and ran a red light after witnesses reported drag racing.

SEMCO Outlines Sludge Plan For Grundy County Land Use
SEMCO officials explained a threefold plan involving removing digestant sludge for the Metropolitan Sanitary District, enriching Grundy County farms, and fulfilling a $2.25 million contract. The proposal calls for spreading 460,000 tons of sludge on 2,200 acres in Norman Township near Seneca this year using a 40-car Rock Island train to transport material from Calumet lagoons to fields. The operation would apply about 25 tons per acre to a three inch depth, with sludge containing 17 elements and 8 percent solids, and would include berms and trench-based irrigation pipes to move the material. Farmers would benefit as soil conditioner without charge and be paid for any unproduced crops. The project cites odor control, soil tests showing increased organic material, and a prior successful project at Arcola lasting since June. An unloading site would be on the Carl Myers property with a pump house and lagoon, plus an additional 2,200 acres secured for disposal.

Paul G. Meister 23 of Champaign faces possession of marijuana criminal trespass to a vehicle and theft charges. Judge Ro bert Malmquist allowed a psychiatric exam at the request of defense counsel August Black with arraignment set for February 10. Meister was jailed on a 10000 bond after allegedly stealing a 1971 Electra Buick and failing to pay for gas. Six ounces of marijuana were found in a 1967 Volkswagen after a second arrest.
