Morris Library Trustees Hire Illinois Professor for Survey

Morris Library trustees voted to hire Harold Goldstein of the University of Illinois to survey local library needs and plan space requirements for the next 20 years. The $700 to $800 project will run mid March to end May, with several community visits and a final report including site recommendations and building program guidance. The process will not commit to a specific expansion and will consider non resident cardholders and school relations.

46 Americans Die In Viet Crash Near An Khe

A U S Air Force C123 transport from An Khe carrying 46 Americans and mortar shells crashed in fog and rain five miles east of An Khe. All aboard perished, with 42 soldiers and four crew members killed. Ammunition exploded in the fireball.

Lockmaster Honored for Storm Report

Nicholas J. Fagan, lockmaster at Dresden Island Lock and Dam, received a public service award from Ivan W. Brunk for his tornado report of November 12, 1965. The Weather Bureau credited his alert with aiding warnings that saved lives in Joliet and Tinley Park.

Meeting Planned On County Home

The Grundy County Home Committee of the board of supervisors will hold a special meeting open to the public at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the circuit courtroom of the courthouse to discuss the county home situation. All interested in construction of a new home or opposed to such a program are urged to attend and express opinions, per chairman Byrd Gotham. County committee members, lay committee appointees, and other interested supervisors are expected to attend.

Seneca Man Escapes Icy River After Barge Line Injury

Eugene Tim mons 32 an employee of Continental Grain Co swam 100 feet to a dock Monday afternoon after being struck by a 60 foot line that slipped from a barge and knocked him into the Illinois River. He was rushed to Ryburn Memorial Hospital Ottawa with facial injuries possibly including a fractured jaw.

Planning map adopted for Grundy County 20 year outlook

Grundy County Planning Commission adopted a comprehensive planning map outlining land use roads and facilities for twenty years. The plan includes industrial zones along Interstate 80 and near Illinois 113 with public hearings set for February 8 and February 16 to review zoning district maps and regulations.

Local three day outlook for light snow and cold

Weather summary notes minimal change for the next three days with occasional snow tonight and Wednesday. It will be partly cloudy and cold Thursday.
