Morris Planning Commission delays Homeacre drainage fix vote

The Morris Planning Commission pressed for drainage and flood control measures for Homeacre Subdivision, a 20 acre six homes project near Morris. Dr. T. P. Crane to retire at Dwight center

Dr. Thomas P. Crane longtime superintendent at William W. Fox Children’s Center will retire effective January 31 after a career spanning service in Illinois state facilities and the Veterans Administration. He and Mrs. Crane reside in Dwight with seven grown children. An appreciation event is planned January 29 at 2 30 p.m. in the Center auditorium.

Kendall highway plans outlined for Kendall County

Kendall County officials and Yorkville leaders heard Illinois Department of Transportation plans for 1974 to 1978 including U S 34 and Illinois 47 projects. Regional engineer Sigmund Ziejewski cited annual Kendall funding around 350 000 to 400 000 with needs far outstripping available funds. Completed road work from 1966 to 1972 and planned budget shift to July were noted.

Nixon to lift oil import limits for four months

President Nixon will lift all restrictions on overseas importation of No 2 home heating oil to address a widening fuel shortage. Rep Silvio Conte says quotas would be dropped for four months. Gen George Lincoln will hold a news conference on quotas as shortages spread from the Midwest to the Mid Atlantic and New England.

First 1973 Kendall traffic death in Aurora

Kendall County records the first traffic fatality of 1973 as Javier H Velasques, 26, of 582 S LaSalle St Aurora, who had been in the country one week. He was a passenger in a car driven by Susana Gonzalez, who attempted to pass a truck on US 34 near Richards Rd west of Oswego. The car skidded on ice, struck the truck, left the road, and hit a utility pole. Velasques died at the scene. three others in the truck were uninjured. The body was taken to McKeown Funeral Home Oswego as officials sought to notify relatives in Mexico.

Basque Guerrillas Kidnap Industrialist in Spain

Basque guerrillas abducted Felipe Huarte, a 50 year old executive at a major Spanish construction firm, from Pamplona and reportedly took him toward France. ETA demanded about $792,000 for his release. This marked ETA's third kidnapping in two years.
