Poor But Proud Mesquakie 4-H Visit in Tama Iowa
Three Grundy County 4-H Federation representatives and two adult leaders visited the Mesquakie Indian Settlement near Tama Iowa. They delivered mattresses clothes blankets and pillows from county residents and local businesses. The Mesquakie settlement houses about 1000 people on 3000 acres with a seven member tribal council and two main clans the bear and fish. The community preserves language and crafts while facilities funded by HUD and ECDA expand housing and services.

A light snow totaling about one inch in Morris created slick roads and highways early today. Three people were injured in a weather related collision on east U S 6. A travelers advisory for tonight predicts light snow and freezing rain with temperatures near 10 to 15 degrees.

Missing Seneca children abducted amid home invasion
Police in Seneca Illinois report three children aged 8 to 11 were abducted by their mother her new husband and brother from the former husband’s trailer. The runaways include two girls and a boy linked to a 7 year old who drowned last month. Authorities issued an all points bulletin and alerted Texas authorities after suspects were believed to flee in a brown Chevrolet station wagon with Texas plates.

Kendall amends Kendall County liquor laws
Kendall County Board adopted amendments to liquor control rules with minor changes in classifications and permit fees. Class A licenses total nine at $500 each. Classes B through F vary from $250 to $350. Prohibited sale hours are 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays and 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sundays. Minooka Grade School Board moved to publish candidacy petitions for April 14. Three three year terms will be filled. incumbents Bruce Robinson Dan Roberts and Elizabeth Figge have terms expiring. Petitions run Feb 28 through March 27 at the elementary school office. The board also approved various staff actions and field trips and canceled the Jan 24 meeting.

Illinois officials vow to persist in challenging a permanent nuclear waste storage facility at Morris. The state contends the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ducks key issues as courts and Congress limit review.
